Late last night I noticed my bun had what looked like “sleep” in the fur just below her eyes. She let me clean it out easily and it didn’t seem to cause her pain. I did noticed that her eyes looked a little moist but I’m not 100% sure if this is considered normal. It looked very similar to the picture on the “Monthly Maintenance” section of this site but that section doesn’t note if that moisture is normal or acceptable. Since it was late and she didn’t seem in pain or any different than her normal self, I decided to just clean the crusties with a cloth and check on her eyes again today. Well today, her eyes didn’t look moist anymore but she did have “sleep” in them again. Is this normal or should I be worried about eye infection? Both times the discharge that was stuck in her fur was white and she didn’t seem bothered by me wiping it away with a damp cloth. I am planning to cal the vet tomorrow (she needs a nail trim anyway) but I wanted to see if anyone else has experienced this.

My bunnies (just like my dogs and cats) will get a little “crumb” in the corner of their eye occasionally.  That is not something to worry about- but if it is wet and runny- then it needs to be addressed as it is unhealthy for the underlying skin and sores can develop and it indicates and a problem with the eye itself.

My bunnies used to hate when I would wipe their eyes- but I learned to use my finger as if I am “grooming them” and I lick my finger and wipe their eye.  They seem to like that better- as if I am submissive grooming them for a moment.

My little Chubs always gets these little sleepies in his eyes. I agree with Katnip. If it’s runny, I’d be worried but if not, it’s normal!

So it’s ok for her eyes to be a little moist sometimes as long as its not runny/getting the fur around her eyes wet?

My bunnies definitely get the crusties in their eyes. We used to clean Otto’s eyes out every day, but now that they are together they clean each other up (they’re obsessed with grooming each other’s eyes for some reason).

When the eye is runny, the fur around the eyes will look wet.

Sleepies on the corners of their eyes is normal, and most bunnies kind of like it when you gently remove it.
Wet fur below the eye indicates a problem however. I would have the vet examine her eyes when you take her in. Spockie had one wet eye and it was a blocked duct that the vet could immediate diagnose with this blue light instrument she had. A bit of treatment with some cream from a tube that she prescribed and he was fine. It reoccurred, but the treatment always worked. Never was related to the sleepies.
Samantha’s sleepies are more frequent (sometimes twice a day) but she doesn’t get damp fur. She does get a thin white film that swims around in her eye that she lets me carefully remove.

Crusties are so cute. I like to help Chacha and gently get the crusties out

Stormy gets these and he tooth purrs when I take them out. Sometimes when he’s shedding he gets big gobs of fur and stuff stuck on the corner and I have to use a wet q-tip.
