Chacha, my picky picky hay eater finally agrees with a hay!!!!!

She began snubbing her usual Orchard Grass. I bought organic ones from the BB store, but the company went out of business. I ordered a toy and comb recently, and wished to have some samples of Mature Oat and the Orchard Grass. I got the box today  I fed some of the samples to Chacha and she sniffed.. and sniffed.. and ate both types

        YAYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!! Thanks BB

I think Sammy called her. Mature Oat and the Orchard Grass are what she alternates with.
BB’s been spiking that Mature Oat hay I think, the way she loves it. Hmmmm……..

My bunnies love the oat and wheat hay from the Binky Bunny store!  I give them a big handful a few times a week- I use it as “treat hay”- and they do not waste a single bit of it- they eat all of it.  I give it to them for variety since I buy baled timothy hay (horse sized bale) for their regular hay and a bale even with 3 bunnies lasts 4-6 months.  I love using treat hay to give them variety and they enjoy it- and I like using the economic horse bale hay as I don’t worry about wasting any hay that gets into the litterbox, etc so that way I can throw a large amount into their cage so they don’t run out of hay to munch on.

For anyone that is thinking of ordering hay from BinkyBunny.com- I really recommend it!!! The quality has always been the same and my bunnies eat every scrap. With other hay companies- even Oxbow or Zupreem- I have gotten different cut, texture and color of hay when purchasing. Sometimes I would get stalkier harsher hay and other times softer greener hay- granted my bunnies did eat it- but when I am paying a premium price for hay I like the quality to be consistent.
I know others have noticed the same thing in regards to hay quality. I know there are some other good hay companies out there- but I live in Michigan and none of them are local or carried locally- so I am happy to stick with what I know and like.

Which hay is best for them to grind their teeth down on?

All hay is hard and dense and fiborous so all hay works Hay cubes aren’t the best but can encourage hay eating in a bun who isn’t a big hay eater. But all hay is good-for tummies and teeth!

I’ve been hoping the big box of orchard will come back into stock, and that when it does it doesn’t end up costing such a fortune to ship it to NJ that it is cheaper to buy it in little bags locally.

I find that bales have reasonable shipping. It not only is great hay, but the hay is shipped pretty fast and arrives fast.
The quality is really worth it. I’ve stopped buying pet store hay due to snubbing of the hay, and the bad pieces ><

livingonfaith, what type of hay do you feed Hucklebunny? I recommend Orchard, Oat, Wheat, Meadow.. : )

Sunny’s absolute favorite is the mature oat from BB. I was having a problem with him not eating timothy, but he is NOW!! He doesn’t like orchard, botanical, or oxbow oat…

The BB orchard looks and smells really good to me, but Franz, and even Jasmine won’t touch it! Neither of them ate hay for 2 days, Franz three, until I put the timothy I had out… it’s really unfortunate. I will be trying some of that love grass later cause it looks so yummy! I’m still waiting on my hay from kleenmamas to see if Franz will eat that. BTW Franz has been doing good with his hay besides that because he’s been in his cage next to Jasmine a lot trying to get them used to each other.

Timothy 1st cut is by far the coarsest and most fibrous hay right next to tim 2nd. It has the most ruffage also, IF you can get your bunny to eat it. In general any kind of hay is similar in nutritional and fiber content.

Smokey wouldn’t really eat some cuts of Timothy. I got her an oat mix from Drs. Foster and Smith and she eats it all the time.

And yes, oat is MUCH easier to clean up. It’s bigger and flatter and doesn’t seem to have as much hay dust as Timothy does, which I love since I have to clean TWO cages for the diva — her condo at home and her cage at work.
