I went to a local Tractor Supply store this evening and they were out of the wood stove pellets. I did buy some of the Feline Pine litter to try. I also noticed a pine pellet litter but it said it had carbon in it for odor control. I just wanted to make sure it is safe before buying it. Thanks for any advice.

I’m not sure what that is… do you know the brand name of the litter so we can look it up?

I wouldn’t think carbon would be a bad thing necessarily, but I would still avoid it since bunnies do sometimes eat their litters and I’m not sure how it would react in their stomachs. The carbon itself shouldn’t be poisonous, but it could still cause GI issues possibly.

I’ll try to remember the name of it. I was thinking if she ate it, it might bother her stomach. I’ll definitely hold off until I look into it some more.

Have you tried horse stall bedding? its like the same thing as wood stove pellets only made for animals. Most tractor supply stores have it.

There was some sort of horse stall bedding at the Tractor Supply store but I wasn’t 100% sure it was okay. I’ll see if I can find the name of it and hopefully it would work. This morning it doesn’t seem like Gabby likes the Feline Pine so much. I noticed some pee on the floor and most of her poops are too. Good thing she’s on linoleum and the steam mop gets it up good.

Aspen pellets are excellent if you like pellets, as well as Yesterdays News as an alternative when they run out of your usual pellet. Feline Pine is the best Pine, but if she’s protesting, you could try Aspen shavings for a change of feel. Aspen is much safer a wood and absorbs odors really well, too.

I think carbon is like what charcoal briquettes are made of. It would probably be bad if ingested. Any additives or excelerants (sp?) are a problem. Pine shavings are also dangerous, but aspen shavings are much cheaper than pellets and she might like it. Just a few suggestions.

hmmm. I don’t know the answer this question. Would like to know, and my google search came up empty, and I can’t find anything about it in any of the books I have. So, the next step would be for me to ask my vet next time I visit. In the meantime, if anyone finds an answer…post it!.

For now, when it doubt, use something else. I also like Aspen Pellets. I do find them to be more expensive so I mix them with Yesterday’s News. And I think it works great.
