Do bunnies like music?  I used to have a cd player/radio running throughout the day when i’m not home. It broke and i haven’t replaced it! Do my bunnies even care????

I doubt they care – they are probably relaxing when you aren’t home.

Neither of my rabbits have ever given any indication that they respond to music or the radio. However, growing up, we did have a guinea pig who would alway coo happily when we played one particular song off a Manheim Steamroller cd

But regardless, I wouldn’t think bunnies would really need music to keep them company during the day, since 1) their communication/behaviors isn’t as sound-based as ours is, and 2) my bunnies at least spend the better part of the work-day snoozing anyway. They’re naturally crepuscular (active at dawn and dusk), and they seem to be content to relax during the day.

Monkey racecars to heavy metal. Smudge lounges to anything. When she was first here, she was right beside the subwoofer for the surround sound, so she got an earful of alot of stuff

Tank doesn’t seem to care for music at all (or at least, not the stuff I like) but when I leave the window open for him, I think he really enjoys listening to the differing noises out there, usually birds. Too cold to leave it open right now though.

I don’t think they need it on per se. I know whenever I play music, I get a disapproving glare. So Lolli doesn’t seem to like all of my music. Just some of it.

Kate and Spence seem to really like it when I play the piano. They curl up together next to the piano and stare at me. It’s incredibly cute and makes my day. But that’s the only music they seem to have that response to. Although in their case I could see some benefit to leaving music on for them as they don’t much care for the sounds of my neighbors clomping up the stairs or talking outside, and it might drown some of that out. lol, maybe I should leave them with some nice Gershwin on the piano when I’m gone 😀 But I guess it depends on the bunnies, I don’t think they really care one way or the other, but if they act like they like music when its on, why the heck not? But I wouldn’t kill my bank account (or guilt trip myself) to indulge an appreciation that we (as die hard bunny lovers and anthromorphizers) probably just read into their actions.

Huckleberry never gave any indication that she cared about music or any noise for that matter, until yesterday. She had been resting in her room for an hour or so, then my boyfriend played Led Zepplin’s “Immigrant song”, she raced into the living room and started sniffing him like he had a treat. Then she got on the couch, raced back and forth on the couch, jumped off and shook her head and then flopped over at his feet. I’ve never seen her react like that to anything!

Rupert HATES rap music. Stomp stomp footflick…

Kokanee used to like the TV on (plus it helped tire her out so she wouldn’t keep me up all night)

I have heard of peoples bunnies liking childrens music and/or classical music. And many bunnies like when you put on some music and dance with them. But so far, mine don’t seem to show a preference except for the country music I sometimes leave on during the day because Mikey seems to like it.

It’s my experience that all animals…including rabbits respond to music.

Bindi get super, insanely hyper, when I put something with a really fast beat on (his faves are belly dance music and Weird Al’ Yankovic songs (especially the song “Hey Ricky”. He always does insane zooms and popcorns to this song). The other 2 don’t respond as much but Olivia is often a bit more hyper when there is music on.

I first discovered this about animals and music a few years ago when I made a mixed CD and brought my CD player to the barn to listen to while I rode my horse. The CD started with some slow classical songs and then jumped to a really fast Indian pop song. I couldn’t believe the difference in my horse as soon as that fast tempo started. She just couldn’t move her legs fast enough. Then she calmed down a bit when the next, slower song started. She really seems to enjoy working to music.

Usako likes the Kia commercial with the rapping hamsters…

other than that, they are only subjected to 80s metal, j-rock, and game music
