It’s Logan.  Again.  He’s been off and on with the sneezing, but things were looking good until today.  One of his eyes is runny- the fur underneath his eye is stuck together.  It’s only one eye.  His vet isn’t in the office until Wednesday.  Is a runny eye an emergency thing, or can he wait another day and a half to be seen?  Argh, this little guy has been sick since the day I got him, and just when I thought things were getting better, this happens

Is he eating and going to the bathroom normally? And are there other rabbit-savvy vets that you know of either in the same practice or at a different office that could see him?

Yep- everything looks good except the eye. He’s drinking, eating hay, and happily hopping around the room. I know there is a highly-recommended vet very close to me at a different clinic that I could get him to either tonight or tomorrow if needed, but I’d rather have him see his usual vet, since she knows what’s been going on with him for the past 2 months.

Hmmm, my interpretation is that as long as he’s eating and pooping fine, it might be okay to wait till Wednesday, but I’d be super vigilant of any changes in the meantime. If his sneezing or runny-eye intensifies, I’d still bring him in right away, even if there were no additional changes in his eating/pooping.

Maybe someone else will have a different take though.

Thanks, Otti. He’s going to the vet on Wednesday!

I hope his vet visit goes well. A runny eye can be a sign of respiratory problems. Let us know how it goes.

Good news- Logan is okay! (I suppose the bad news is how expensive the bill was! eek) She did an eye stain to check for a scratch, since just 1 eye was teary, plus a dental exam, but neither showed anything suspicious. The runniness had actually pretty much stopped by the time I took him in, but he has eye ointment that I’m supposed to use for the next few days, and might need to use if it comes back in the future. She suspects that the eye problem was due to something irritating his eye- maybe some dust or a tiny bit of hay or something. I’ll give you all a better update on him, since I think his “diagnosis” might be of interest to others with sneezy buns- but it will have to wait until after my big exam tomorrow.

hmmm that’s weird though that if something was just irritating his eye he’d also be sneezing…

I thought I’d replied the other day when I read your post, so sorry to just be jumping in now, but this is good news.
Since you said he’s been sneezing it does sound like it could be an irritant. My Spockie had a blocked duct once that my vet had said could come back at times, but the part I wanted you to know was that I was given an eye ointment also. I put a drop of it into the corner of his eye, it melted into his eye with his body heat, and it had to be done for a couple of days. Then his eye was all dry again. I was told to just use it anytime he had a bit of clear moisture from his eye. I did this for years, he was good about taking it and he clearly felt better when I used it. Nothing else was needed and I just kept the tube handy.

One caution: Spockie did not have any accompanying sneezing, so if that persists, it might need further attention.
