Does anyone know if it’s safe to feed broccoli sprouts for veggies? I gave Hef a few the other day and he seems to really like them, but I don’t want to give him a lot if they aren’t good for him. Hope everyone had a good Monday!

Broccoli is on the suggested veggie list on the House Rabbit Society site. http://www.rabbit.org/care/veggies.html. I volunteer at a Rabbit Sanctuary, and it is also on the list of recommended veggies that the Sanctuary vet provided for us.

Broccoli is fine, but like in humans, can sometimes give a bunny gas. So it’s a good idea to not give too much at a time, at least until you know if your bunny can handle the broccoli family of veggies, which includes Kale. I tend to use it, as with Kale, as more of a small amount in a meal along with a basic lettuce (like romaine) in the greater part of the serving. That way, it gets eaten, but along with another food and not too much.

A bunny with gas will either act sort of uncomfortable, sit in a meatloaf position looking unhappy, or have a gurgling tummy. Or have the expected problem. PU!

Hahaha I have to admit…sadly this vegetarian had to look up if broccoli sprouts are in fact baby broccolis….they are!! I was like…why are they responding about broccoli-she said broccoli sprouts!! Oh hangs head in shame

I’ve tried, and no one ate them, but small amounts should be fine

Thanks everyone! I’ve given Heffie a few here and there and he always goes for them first and doesn’t seem to have a problem with gas or act uncomfortable with them. I think I might try to incorporate them into his diet a little more for variety.
