My bun a lot of hair in her poops.  it looks like a string of pearls.  Does anyone have an ideas that will help her pass the hair better.  She is a minilop with a lot of fur.  (winter coat)

Pineapple helps and is encouraged to be offered to a rabbit when they are shedding.

Seeing hair in the poops is itself a good sign that the hair is passing through the system! Pineapple juice used to be recommended a lot, but these days many will say that it’s largely ineffective, and there’s debate as well on whether or not rabbits can even get hairballs. If you’re worried about hair ingestion, make sure to brush your bunny a lot during the shedding phase – these few days, Peppy has finally started to shed a lot, and I’m combing out several brushfuls of hair a day!

I would recommend Oat Hay. Oat hay is thick and it helps push things through the stomach of a rabbit.

Also, a good brushing and light plucking is recommend at this time. Rabbits can’t ingest too much fur because it isn’t good for them

about two weeks ago I found some poop like that too and I started brushing him and by the next day I didn’t see any more like it. I just got done my bunny and I got a LOT of hair off of him.

                  Thank you

I will get a pineapple and oat hay today.  She is going to be so mad, she doesn’t like the brush.  I have to put her on the dishwasher with a towel.

Her poops are not the normal size with the fur mixed in. Last year I had to take her to the vet because she wouldn’t get out of the “meatloaf state”  she quit eating and drinking.  It was never determined why this happened.  According to the vet it could have been anything stress, or even the fur.  Right now she seems so miserible.  He said the buns digestive system is very delicate.  I just think her’s is.  I have her son Bubba and he eats carpeting (not that he is allowed) and seems to be fine

I am always watching how she lays as long as she is laying on her belly with her hind legs out I feel better.  I am just concerned that it may get worse.

                  Thank you so much

In case your rabbit doesn’t like oat hay, make sure that you have plenty of other hays on hand–Timothy, orchard grass, etc. She needs fiber to help her pass the fur and to get her droppings back to normal size. Does she eat a good variety of vegetables, or is she picky? Vegetables are certainly important in their diet. Exercise helps with digestion too.

I hope that she will feel better soon.

Also brush her more! It’s really beneficial for you to remove that hair before she eats it Hay is best, and pineapple/papaya supplements are *thought* to help, can’t hurt and make a yummy treat

She doesn’t like the brush, I tried brushing he last night she pulled the brush out of my hand and flung it.  Veggies she eats; parsley, cilanto, red and green leaf letucce, romaine, a brussel sprout, strawberry tops etc.  This morning her poops seemed a little better.

One of the things that isn’t real found of is hay. It is always out for her and her son.   Can I make a mix of hays maybe that will be better?  Her idea of excerise is going upstairs to bed and coming back downstairs when she decides to get up 8 hours later.  The only rabbit I know that sleeps with her eyes closed and doesn’t wake up when you run the vacuum beside her.  The “Queen” doesn’t like her sleep interrupted.

My furry one doesn’t like the brush either, but it needs to be done. Pineapple and oat hay are great helpers but the real workhorse is grooming. I have found that a dog grooming mitten helps. I picked one up from Petco it looks like a mitten with little plastic knobs so when you are petting you can get your groom on at the same time.

My bun is shedding like mad right now too, I’ve been feeding him fresh hay constantly and giving him papaya but I’m thinking I’ll add pineapple because he is having a lot of hair in his poop and a few have been strung together. Does anyone know if you feed it in a supplement, juice or the actual fruit?

Dawn T, keep Bubba from eating carpeting, a member’s bun died recently from a blockage caused by ingested carpet fibers. Lay mats – grass, seagrass, coconut fibers mats – and small area rugs over the desired places or keep your bunny out of carpeted places. Fresh pineapple juice, or fresh cut chunks of the fruit which you can keep in the freezer, are good, just not canned juice or canned pineapple.

Here is a secret to brushing your rabbits:

Find a place, like a bathroom counter, put down a towel and brush away. Make sure bunny doesn’t try to get off.

Brushing is beneficial for a bunny’s health.

I just plucked my rabbit tonight, the 2nd night in a row, and so much fur came off to make another Chacha bun O_O

I mix hay all the time-I like mixing the really nice oxbow botanical with an orchard grass. Also hay cubes (you can buy them in timothy) encourage hay eating-as well the ‘hay topper’ (dried flower mix) really encourages diggin in. I definitely think that’s a fun way to mix it up

For brushing-most animals don’t like it. Try to do a little often rather then a lot infrequently. Give treats after to make it a pleasant experience. And a few things I’ve found that work-put the bunny on a table for brushing-if they are ‘out of their element’ they will behave better. Or try ‘plucking’-just pulling the big clumps out with hands instead of using a brush. Nobunny likes that but if you do a little bit frequently with an apology raisin, they’ll put up with you
