Thought it might be neat to start a thread for posting your bunny-related tips, tricks and handy hints a la Dear Heloise. I’m sure you’ve all got lots!

Yesterday I was out all day and my bunnies didn’t get much run time so to make up for it I made them a special treat:

        LPT’s Bunny Burritos

        Ingredients:

1 large Romaine leaf (with thickest part of the bottom stem cut off)

        sprinkle of shredded carrot

        sprinkle of pellets

        long, thin strand of hay

Sprinkle the carrot and pellets on the lettue leaf. Roll up tightly (burrito style). Tie securely with hay strand.

Bindi and Olivia immediately took their burrito into their houses to eat: ”We’re not Sharing!!!!”

            Oh, yum!
            I love that tip.

The only tip that pops to mind is: to see post-spay stitches, hold a treat above bunny’s nose until she stands up for it, set a hand mirror down on the floor next to the feet and see the scar area in the reflection. Not as cute as your tip.

Not as cute to see bunny stitches, but valuable allthesame…great, thanks. This is a great thread idea – hope lots of ideas come in, BB might even consider making it a standing post that can always be added to so as not to be responding to old posts. I can’t take the credit for it but JERSEYGIRL suggested running a clean nylon stocking through the water if served in a crock, to remove impurities. I’m going to try the bunny burrito too. Thanks, LPT! Oh, I have one…to facilitate bonding bunnies, put a drop of vanilla on each of their noses – masks the bunnies’ scents from being picked up by each other, so takes away the impulse to be territorial as well as to fight.

I’ll have to try that scent one for my next bonging go-round!

I want to see pics of bunnies eating burritos!

Mmm, i don’t remember that lashkay. I did say about a fine wire mesh. A stocking would do the trick also. That must have been your idea. Once upon a time I used to tie an old stocking on the rainwater tank tap to act as a filter but that tank is gone now.

A tip to add for anyone that has a rabbit that is very uncooperative when being picked up for nail trims etc. Herd them into a carrier, box or basket or whatever then transport them to a high surface like a table or a top a washing maching. I find I am then able to securely pick them up from this higher surface. The distance to get them from there to having all four paws on your chest is minimal.

Glad you set that straight, Jerseygirl. Sorry for the misinterpretation. I must have thought at the time, Hmmm, I don’t have a fine wire mesh, I wonder if I could use a nylon stocking and when I remembered the idea, used the stocking. Same idea, essentially, they both remove impurities and it’s still your idea. I guess a paper coffee filter slid in from the side and then lifted straight up might help too.

I use a carrier as well, when I take the bunnies to do their brushing/combing. Great idea!

Along the vanilla idea, another tip to encourage interest in bonding one to another is to put a dab of banana on one’s head, so the other is enticed by the fragrant perfume of a nanner bun.

P.S. It’s also a tip for teaching a bunny to drink from a hanging water bottle – dab a nanner bit on the tip so the bunny moves the tube end and the water starts after the nanner is eaten.

A cleaning tip: For those who have condos, buy a mini dustpan and handbroom (I got a nice purple one at the dollarstore). Add a hook to the outside of the condo and hang it up so it’s always nearby to sweep up hay and poos. When you have a bunny like Bindi in a condo it comes in very handy!
