I have tried countless times and put up countless obstacles to keep my sweet bunny from getting under the bed but the more obstacles such seem to provide more interesting and challenging tasks for her to occupy herself with. I’ve provided her with alternatives and made her little hiding boxes to play with but SHE WANTS UNDER THE BED!

Now, my question…is it dangerous for her, or bunnies in general really, to be under the bed? She seems to want to be, more specifically, in the bed spring…
If this isn’t a good idea, does anyone have any ideas to keep her out? I currently have a plastic sheet with a wooden board behind it to keep her out but she’s slowly chewing through the sheet and is making her way through the board.

          lol, goofy bunny!

What about storage containers, like low, flat tupperwares? A lot of them are made to fit under beds. You can keep clothes and other things in them, and they’ll keep your little girl from getting under there.

          : )

Or you could use the C&C grids and make a border around the outside.

Rabbits love it under the bed. The only problem that there might be is in case of an emergency trying to get her out from under the bed. I would not let her in the bed springs however, that could be dangerous.

These are both really good ideas that I could try

My girl liked the bed spring too. What really peeved her off is when I went under it and took off the bottom liner she used to climb into. Not nearly as much fun.

Finally, I just got rid of the bed since they had pushed me onto the couch.

I don’t feel comfortable with my bunny being able to get under my bed, mostly because it’s a queen-size and it’s pushed into the corner of the room, so if she goes into the far corner I literally have NO way of getting her out if I had to. Plus, I’ve had a rabbit in the past who liked to go up inside the boxspring, which is not safe. So, I stapled pieces of coroplast to the inside of my bedframe so she can’t get underneath the bed at all. The thing is, I did this before I even brought her home, so she has no idea what’s behind the barriers and doesn’t try to get through them. I think it’s harder to keep a rabbit from doing something it’s done before and really enjoyed.
I do believe the only way now is to completely block off underneath the bed. Those both sound like really good suggestions to me, either a C&C grid barrier or using those tupperware containers. As long as she has hidey houses and things, you shouldn’t feel bad about blocking off the bed.

you could try some plexiglass/acrylic sheets instead of nic grids to make it more presentable. i use that all around my bed then i cover it with a bed skirt.

My bunny used to do that all the time. I use the tupperware and it works great.

I once measured the space under the bed because I was going to have some untreated wood planks cut to size to fit around the bed, possibly with hinges at the corners.
I really like the bedskirt idea around acrylic, wood, or even covering the NIC grids so it looks attractive and matches, but she can’t get through. I’d suggest tightening the skirt under the bottom, too, so she can’t hide under the loose skirt. The nic grids are the simplest to connect and arrange the right shape since they come with corners to attach them.

                          Hi,
I just joined on here…and I am the proud but crazed owner of 2 brand new bonded bunnies, Marley & Phoebe. I have had them one week tomorrow..and I am just starting to get a handle on what their particular issues are so that I can further bunny proof. the male, Marley..a gorgeous black French Lop is very curious, and Phoebe, a beautiful Polish Dwark/Hotot mix has already found her way into the box spring last night. Yikes! I have taped it up, but that won’t last more than today. They are rescues from a shelter and are 4 1/2 and 5. They are very excited to be out of the cage at the shelter, and had free run of a dining room in their previous home for 4 years before being turned into the shelter when their owner’s new spouse was allergic. I have a great 5′ x 5′ sun/mud room off the back of my bedroom that I keep them in over night with a baby gate, and they do spend alot of time in there even during free run, because their wooden house, cottontail cottage, toys, litter box, food, etc. is in there, but it is easiet to give them free run of my bedroom when they do have free run because their room is right off of it..so they can run in and out as they need to eat, go potty, etc.

I had a lop previously, Elvis..who lived to be 12 1/2!!! My bed wasn’t up on risers back when he was young…by the time I put it up like that he was old and arthritic and just wasn’t as curious or destructive at all. He would go under the bed, but he didn’t go in the box spring, and was easy for me to pick up and get out when need be..he had free run all the time because he was very well behaved as he got older. At Marley & Phoebe’s age…he was in a condo all day and only had free run when I was home. I really don’t want to have to do that with these guys…and I fear even if I did that..as soon as they come out they would go right under the bed.

I guess beds are new to them entirely, and they hide under it far too much, to the point that it is interfering with our time together, makes it very hard for me to see how/what they are doing, and they are chewing up my area rug and boxspring..getting into it and I am afraid they will get hurt. It is way too easy for them to catch a paw trying to get out etc.
I live in Queens…really cannot give up my space under the bed. I have plenty of underbox tupperware type containers…they get in between them, around them, on top of them, etc. (My bed is up on risers to accomodate the boxes).
I am looking into one of the beds now that is platform, no boxspring with drawers, which obviously would solve the problem, but it’s a bit pricey and not sure i can do it right away. I don’t want to have to pen them up all day just because of that…everything else is bunny proofed and they are good with the rest of the room. It’s just the bed…
Where can I get the plexiglass/acrylic sheeting? and..wouldn’t they just get under it? I have a rug under there…how would it attach to ground enough that they couldn’t just nose under the sheeting? Wood or NIC is not good..then I couldnt’ get to my stuff…What is C & C?
Any ideas or where to buy would be appreciated! Thanks!!!

                          Nellie

My rabbit is also very determined to get under the bed however I tried stuffing pillows there and ask sorts of stuff but I found an easy fix when I was looking at playpens for my guinea pig I ordered it and it ended up being too short and she could jump out then I realized the space between the bedframe and ground was about the same height as the rainbow pet playpen https://www.walmart.com/ip/Prevue-Pet-Products-Multi-Color-8-Panel-Small-Animal-Pet-Playpen/24868755?wmlspartner=wlpa&selectedSellerId=0&adid=22222222228017677138&wl0=&wl1=g&wl2=m&wl3=40341609152&wl4=pla-78299994992&wl5=9016963&wl6=&wl7=&wl8=&wl9=pla&wl10=8175035&wl11=online&wl12=24868755&wl13=&veh=sem

Or just search “rainbow hamster playpen”, anyways it fits perfectly and keeps my little Delilah from getting under the bed
