I bought Lolli her normal organic baby spring mix lettuce.  Two of the larger tubs.   Previously I had bought one head of romaine and two green leaf heads.   Apparently Lolli doesn’t like full grown romaine too much.  If it’s the only thing she has to eat, she’ll eat it.   I have realized with the 2 tubs of lettuce I bought this week that they are now apparently about 50% of spinach if not more.  She doesn’t like spinach, so guess how much of that is getting wasted.  GRRR.  Dumb picky bunnies and dumb manufacturers messing up my feeding.  lol

This is why I want 2 rabbits again.  I NEVER knew who didn’t like what cause everything was being eaten by morning.  LOL

For those of you who buy separate heads of lettuce, how do you feed it?  I normally just break off some leaves and give it to her.  But would chopping it up make it go farther?   What about keeping it fresh?  I’m not buying the tubs anymore if it’s mainly just going to be spinach.

I tear up about 6 leaves off the romane or 4 depending on the size.     They love Bokchoy too.   Well mine do.

They have had iceburg lettuce b4 too.     I tear out a piece the size of my palm  and break it up.

You might try some dandelion and grasses in the yard if it isn’t sprayed.  Oh hibiscus too.  When I run out of lettuce thats what I do plus it gives them variety

Chopping it up will likely cause it to wilt faster. Also, when you cut lettuce it get’s that reddish brown oxidization. Not sure if those bit are ok for rabbits to eat but I always end up picking those bits off.

Keeping it on the core will keep it fresh longer. I usually cover lettuce and greens in slilghtly damp paper towel or cloth but making sure the greens themselves aren’t overly wet. Wet greens go slimy. Don’t toss the core either. Trim of the yucky bits and give it to Lolli to see if she likes it. Jersey does, Rumball doesn’t.

Lolli sounds like she has a taste for the sweeter greens. Full grown romaine can taste more bitter. But if she eats it eventually then good. I wouldn’t cater to her sweet tooth too much. Mine will eat their faves, sweeter stuff first but enjoy the other greens if that is all that’s on the plate.

I tend to buy curly endive and radachio a bit. Not really lettuces. I find they’re a bit more robust greens and keep better.  Also, give brussel spouts a go. Mine love them and they can have one each without any issue with gas.
I’ll provide pictures because of geographical difference in what we all call different veggies.

I know my local grocery store will take the item back if you don’t want it/didn’t like it/it was spoiled/etc , even if its pet food and the pet rejected it. Mine don’t care much for spinach either, I stick to the basics, Romaine/green/red leaf + cilantro and parsley. I tried watercress and bokchoy a few weeks ago to spice things up and they were fully rejected.

                  BT, Ditto. NO more iceberg.

I am getting my fresh lettuce tomorrow at a farmer’s market where it’s grown in back and really huge. I have a thin, linen towel lining my fridge crisper drawer, and put it in there, with the towel folded loosely over the heads. It stays so much longer that way. Do not wash it until you are ready to feed it, so wash a few leaves at a time. It won’t wilt as fast, it keeps the water really fresh so it is thirst quenching when served as well as being newly cleaned.

i just grab a handful of leaves by ripping them off, so the bunny can do the chewing and munching. Any opp. to chew is good for them to wear down their teeth.

I know iceburg is bad.  Sometimes hubby comes home with lots of lettuce.   Lately it has been more iceburg than yummy romaine.   We eat more of the iceburg and feed them the romaine.

When the romaine is gone I give them a little of the iceburg and they are fine.   I dont’ like giving it and they actually don’t like it that much which is good.    They get very little.

Hubby never knows what he is going to come across at the fruit / vegie places.   They give him the old stuff.     Even though old it is still good for a few days and I tear off the bad stuff when something goes bad on the edges of the leaves.

Myself I prefer romaine too.   I think it is just the time of year as to what there is most of.
