I recently ordered the ”Hair Buster” from Binkybunny store and I’m very pleased with the results. In the past I either just used my hands, or used rubber mitts. But this comb is very effective and helps to keep hair from getting everywhere, since it ends up in the comb. It has become a part of our weekly routine.  It took some getting used to for Larry, but he will now sit quietly on our grooming/nail trimming table for me to do what I got to do.   Maybe most people here already use it, I don’t know, but I’d definetely recommend it. Thanks Binkybunny for a great product.

I really love that brush. It even works well on my mini rex, and they are hard to groom sometimes because of their very short, dense fur.

I have it too. I had to take the rubber off cause Franz’s fur is longer than the comb will brush but it will be great when he sheds! I love it.

I love it! Merry actually lets me use it on her – this has solved my “what do I do, she’s shedding?!” issue!

I, too, have been feeling good about the hairbuster comb. The one I got at BB Store has somewhat more widely spaced tines than the first one i got from the hairbuster website, so there is less of a chance of pulling too hard on the hair. Buddie was very patient and didn’t mind a little pulling especially I think because all the while I stroked his forehead with my other hand. I do this with Dustor too but he seems much more sensitive to when the comb goes through dense sections of fur and pulls at it, sometimes even getting stuck. He then expresses a bunny’s equivalent of saying Ow! and tries to get away. This doesn’t seem to be mats, those are thick and hard and I cut those off. Does your bunny sit still and not mind even when the comb pulls at the hair and gets a little stuck in it? Dustor is so apprehensive that the hairbuster is going to pull on his hair that I’ve become reluctant to use it on him at all. Petie too fears it. But I want to use it because its so effective at collecting all the loose hair. Any tips on making it go more smoothly? Thanks

When I first tried the comb with Larry, we used it on the floor. He didn’t like the pulling feeling and tossed his head and hopped away. Silly human! Well, I told him whether he liked it or not he was getting brushed. So we do it where I trim his nails. I put him on top of a towel on top of my kitchen counter, because it’s a bit taller than a table and I thus have better control over him cause he’s closer to me. I give him something yummy like a banana chip or a piece of apple and start slowly and gently brushing. You have to be gentle because it is made out of metal. I don’t know that he “loves” this brushing time, but it needs to be done and I think he’s accepted that. And after he’s done and back on the floor he gets lots of loving.

At one time I picked up the tip that you can angle it slightly so it combs more with the side than the points, and always comb in the direction the fur grows. It feels less sharp to them and Sammy sat still much longer for it when I combed that way. She loves it.

Yes you can angle them.  I also use a different come and start on the ends of the hair and work my way up to get rid of the tangle part before combing with hairbuster.

Lately I have been skipping that and it pulls on Ruby’s cheek hair so I hold a layer of cheek hair up and comb the underneath then I let the top hair i am holding down and comb that.   If it pulls I start at the tip  farthest from the body.

                          Hope that helps.

I would like to order another one of those cuz it doens’t work on Cottons side and back  just his skirt and face are where his hair is longer.

When I’ve used mine on Lolli, it seemed to be better tolerated when I angled it. However, for lots of shedding, I have found to get the best results, I have to use it regular. I just have to be really gentle with it no matter what. And it seems like as soon as she even FEELS anything, that’s it. No more I say! LOL

Thanks, all of you, that’s great advice! I have been having technical problems getting on the forum siite, so sorry for the delay in my post.

                              – Chazz: I can see where on a towel on the kitchen counter in most homes probably would help a lot; unfortunately, I have a teeny studio apartment with a utility kitchen and just a little more than a foot wide of counterspace on either side of the sink with one side mostly taken up by a microwave while the other side butts up against a stove, and while I could keep him from jumping outward with my body as kind of a wall, I fear if he freaked he might manage to jump in the sink whereupon he would really freak, or onto the stove burners and skid off onto the floor. I’ve been carrying him to the bathroom where I put him into the square SPCA carrier waiting on the floor next to the closed toilet lid where I lay out the tools. He knows the drill and he dreads it but key I think is that word, gentle. And I will from now on try to entice him with something he loves to eat. (My options are limited there as he turns away from practically everything except pellets, and maybe oats and papaya bits if he isn’t too apprehensive about being brushed to eat. I’ll try to offer him lots of pets afterward too. Thanks!

                              – RabbitPam, I’m glad Sammy loves being brushed. I yearn for my bunnies to get there too. Thanks for the tip about angling the comb and making sure to comb in the direction of the fur. It helps me in knowing how to make it feel gentle.

                              – bunnytowne, thanks for your tip about starting at the ends so it doesn’t pull, and separating sections by holding the top of cheek hair up while tending to the underneath part then letting it down and brushing through that. I wouldn’t have thought of that.

                              – thanks, bunbuns1 about the angling, and that gentleness and keeping them from feeling anything, is no.1

I appreciate these great ideas, they I’m sure will help a lot. Thanks so much you all!
