I was looking at the receipt for her ear cleaning that was shoved in my purse.  Apparently they weighed her.  And she’s 7 lbs.  According to an internet search, mini rexes should weigh around 4 1/2 lbs.  The fact that I know her actual weight now allows for no excuses anymore.  I simply have to get her weight down.

I did cut her pellets down but I’ll be taking more away gradually.  And I have to be strong and not give in when she’s begging like a mad little bunny for treats.  lol

Cut out alot of the treats too. treats and pellets are what makes buns chubby.

oh yes. She just came over begging for “dessert” and all I did was try to give her nose pets cause she’s not getting many treats. I have her treats on the coffee table for easy access and I need to move them back to the bunny basket/tote. So she’s begging and they’re close to me so it’s tempting to just give in. lol

Now….if I could just cut down on the treats for ME. haha

Bunnies will beg beg and more beg. I’ve stopped giving Chacha treats and give about 3-5 pellets as treats occasionally. She knows.

Good luck with slimming lil Lolli down She is a cutie.

Yes, good luck with slimming her down. It’s bad for their health and can cause issues if they get too over weight

First of all, don’t go by those weight standards – those are standards for “show bunnies” and most of our rabbits are mixes. It is also possible that Lolli is a standard rex. It seems most people just automatically classify a rex as a mini rex and that’s just not always the correct classification.

I would imagine that if your vet thought Lolli was overweight, they would have mentioned it to you.

I agree with Sarita. Did the vet say she was very overweight? My first thought when I heard 7 pounds was that she might be a standard… So reducing pellets and treats may be a good idea, but you want to be careful she doesn’t drop too much. We can easily drop 3 pounds in a week… for a rabbit that is almost half her body weight. The pics I’ve seen of her, she looks a bit chunky but not outrageously large.

Rabbitpam’s Spockie was about 7-8 pounds and he was supposedly a mini rex but wasn’t noticeably overweight for his frame. My guess is that he was either an abnormally large mini rex or a standard or a mix of the both.
