I have a question in regrads to chlorophyll, lately Zoe’s buisness has been smelling really, really badly I have to clean her cage everyday and sometimes even twice a day. Her urine is sooooooooo strong very over whelming. At first I thought she might have some sort of urine infection but no shes perfectly fine, vet did a urinalysis and shes perfectly fine. So ive been asking around and found out that if I put a few drops of chlorophyll in Zoes water that it might help reduce the odor in her urine. does anyone know if this true??? Last year I started giving chlorophyll supplements under doctor suprvision to my 3 year old, they found a mass near her lung which nearly made me have a heart attack since i started thinking the worse case scenario Turns out it wasnt malignant but kept giving her the supplement since its been said to have anti-carcinogen properties its helped her in alot of other stuff. Any ways does anybody know if this is safe for bunnies? I mean chlorophyll is found in most greens anyways. I guess this would just be a much more concentrated form of it. I was told to just put 3-4 drops in 16oz of water and that in time the smell of her urine would reduce. Of course i was told the ododr in her urine wont be completely gone just slightly reduced. Oh by the way Zoe isnt spayed and i know this has alot to do with her smelly urine but I didnt spay her earlier cuz of her pregnancy and then she was nursing the foster bunnies and right now shes not nursing anymore but shes still healing from her wounds and is on antibiotics for the wounds that she has. vet said i would probably be able to get her spayed within 3-4 months, shes been through alot and is having fluctuating weight so vet wants to get her stable before putting her through surgery. I might use this for Chomper too since lately his been spraying and it smells like skunk when he does (I thought neuter males stopped spraying, i personally think its cuz of all the baby buns that are running around “his” territory)

Well, you might as well give it a try. I know you get get chlorophyll pills for female dogs (hehe, cannot write the proper term without being censored ) in heat, to reduce the strong scent of hormones and keep male dogs away. It is supposed to be given in quite large doses (30 pills per day), otherwise it doesn’t work, it turns the poop green, and well, some people say it doesn’t work. So, it should help to decrease the smell of her hormonal pee and poop.

I’m glad you are aware of the fact that all these problems will disappear once she is spayed. Also, antibiotics do also cause the urine to stink, so it might get better once she is off this.

Regarding Chomper – he is most likely just reacting to all the baby bunnies. Once they are gone, he will stop marking his territory and the smell will disappear.

So, just wait and things will get better

Oh i didnt know they gave it do female dogs, I think i will give it a try for Zoe, Her urine was smelling even before the antibiotics, and lately its just been even worse. I think ill stop by a holistic doctor and see if i can get some liquid chlorophyll and start giving it to Zoe today. I dont think I can wait 3-4 months until she gets spayed.

I’m not familiar with this, but it sounds like something you could try. Please watch to make sure this doesn’t prevent her from drinking her normal amount of water. Sometimes bunnies can sense water supplements and may begin to avoid the water altogether.

              What are her daily veggies?

I mostly give her greens, I give her cilantro, carrot tops, romain lettuce, and parsley. Aside from that she gets Timothy hay and 2 cups of pellets a day. Trying to cut down on the pellets but the vet said its fine for her right now since she needs her to gain weight. I give her a small snack every other day 1 inch piece of  banana and 1/2 inch piece of apple. She drinks ALOT of water around 16-18oz of water per day. She’s REALLY active always running and jumping around so im guessing that is why she drinks so much water. Im comparing this to Chomper who probably drinks MAYBE 8oz a day. From what I have understand some chlorophyll is done from just alfalfa.

Yeah I would think it’s fine-it’s in grass of course! And I would guess it’s in all hay-as hays are grass/grass based. I’ve never heard of giving it before! You must keep us posted on how it works! And like Beka said-good idea to ensure she still drinks even though something is added

You might want to try take out the cilantro too. That can cause some stinky pee.

Thanks jerseygirl i’ll take your advice and take cilantro out of her diet. Oh and its been 2 days since ive been giving her chlorophyll in her water and she hasnt stopped drinking water, also i called her vet and let her know i was going to try this and she said that was a great idea, she said chlorophyll is known for helping fight infections in animals and heal injured tissue. So if it doesnt help her with the stincky urine it will help her heal much faster from her wounds. Vet said some doctors recommend it to people as a natural form of body deodarant, she said it helps with bad breath and strong body odors. So hopefully this helps Zoe. It makes sense though ive noticed when my dog feels sicky he eats grass its an animals natural medicine as Zoe’s vet said. =)
