Besides me feeding too many treats.   She’s a freaking PIG!    When I had both bunnies, I couldn’t ever be sure who was eating what and how much.  Last night about 10pm, I gave her the last of the pellets which almost filled her bowl full.  When I get up about 1:30pm today, almost all of the pellets are gone.  Huh?!?   lol   And she has unlimited hay too and got a lot of lettuce last night as well.  Geesh.

So she’s going back to only 1/4 cup per DAY!

You’s not a bunny, you’s a piggy wiggy! I completely never stand there saying that to my buns as they inhale their food…

Are you ready for the reducing pellets bunny butt?

Do any of you ever wonder if they’ll go into withdrawal or something if we took away their pellets? LOL I gave Lolli a fresh 1/4 cup and a few minutes after giving them, she was over there munching. She is a good hay eater so she does eat well. I just didn’t realize how much of a little piggy she was. LOL Of course I should’ve known she was a piggy cause she’d always growl at me and Eddie when I gave them their bye bye treats in the morning when I left for work. One day, all I did was give her the pinch of oats and Eddie wasn’t around and she was STILL growling. No one was bothering her. haha The girl likes her food!

My bun adores carrots, she’ll get quite upset when she begs for one and one isn’t presented! She also really likes her pellets, and my family unfortunately thinks she should get more than 1/4 of a cup a day, and I’m like no, pellets are a supplement, not the main staple of her diet, she gets hay for that! I still think they sneak her some extra when I’m not around. Nice to see other bunnies are just as or more so little piggies too ^_^

Rexes are piggies, and prone to become obeste.
My Rex was a bit of a fatty as well… My Rex Mix Suzy shares 1 cup each day with her brother (Both bunnies are over 10lbs) and she is still a plump bunny LOL

it is a myth that rexy buns tend to obesity. According to Dana Krempels there is no such thing as a rex fat gene. They are greedy eaters by and large but so are many rabbits. I think they just can’t hide their fat rolls as well. Also, keep in mind that the mini rex was created using dwarf rabbit genes, and dwarves get fat on pellets fast due to their small size.

Petzy, that makes a lot of sense! I never thought of it that way – I always accepted that rexes get fat easier, but I guess it’s mostly an optical illusion – they just look fatter because of their short fur, while long haired bunnies hide it better.

She might have learned to eat fast from living in a pair. Otto and Hannah both used to eat quite slowly when they lived alone, but they demolish food now. As long as somebunny is eating something, the other one has to be there to get his or her share. I noticed the same thing when I grew up with two dogs – once we were down to one dog, she picked at her dinner all night long instead of gobbling it down like she did when we had both dogs.

Lolli’s definitely fat. Her dewlap is like twice the size of her head, she has cankles and when she’s up hopping around, her belly almost hits the floor.

So today we are going back to the diet I had started before Eddie died. !/4 cup pellets per day, lettuce and unlimited hay and one or two raisins per day and no other treats. Unless I’m eating fruit which honestly, isn’t often. lol
