So my local Tractor Supply is now carrying a nice range of bagged forage, including Standlee Timothy Pellets:

        http://www.standleehay.com/ViewProd…amp;id=tgp

The ingredient is 100% pure timothy, not even any binding ingredients (which is unusual for cubed/pelleted forage, that’s why I love Standlee brand!).  The guaranteed analysis is…

Protein – Not Less Than 8%
Crude Fat – Not Less Than 1.8%
Crude Fiber – Not More Than 35%
Moisture – Not More Than 12%

I was perhaps considering buying a bag of this for my horse and Zeus to share.  While it couldn’t be a total replacement of the hay in his diet, since it lacks long-stem forage (pelletizing does that), could it be offered as a supplement to his regular hay?  Has anyone fed their buns a pure hay pellet like this?  I think it would be a great way to get him to eat more hay, because I’m sure he’d just see them and think “YAY PELLETS!” and not realize it’s just hay.

I would love to feed my rabbits a grain-free pellet but I have not bought any since the bags are sized for horse purposes… I think if you can get Zeus to like them, they could be useful to stretch his regular pellets. I would consult with your vet since he would know all the nutrition requirements of rabbits as compared to horses… I personally am a big fan of grain-free for rabbits.

Yeah the timothy pellet would not be a replacement of his regular pellet, but in addition to it, or even perhaps to replace just a small portion of it.  He only gets 1/3 cup regular pellets, which for his size is a pretty small amount I think.

Nutritionally, adding the tim pellet should be no different than getting him to eat more tim hay.  I think!

I agree, it is just hay, but the pelleted version of hay affects teeth differently so I would not use it in place of hay.

Agreed!  Luckily I have found a hay Zeus likes (really coarse and stalky… but whatever, he likes it &#160, but any way I can get a bit more forage into him is a good thing, I think!

He likes his hay coarse and stalky? That’s great! My Lint is like that: he will eat little sticks even, like spaghetti. I love watching it.
I think Zeus is the only regular french lop member on BB, or am I wrong? I love the french lops.

Yep, Zeus eats his hay like that too!  It’s adorable to listen to him chew too, since it’s so coarse its crunchcrunchcrunchcrunch! .

I believe Zeus is a french lop, either that or a french lop/mini lop cross.  There’s another member here with a french lop, but I don’t remember the username! .  It’s definitely a cool breed, totally a “gentle giant”!

This seems like a wonderful idea. I have a store by me that carries it too. Hugo isn’t much of a hay eater and LOVES his pellets. He will eat his orchard grass but I wonder if it would help us stretch our pellets out. We seem to be going through them pretty fast using 1 – 1 1/2 cups a day. Maybe it’ll help get him to a normal amount without him being so moody? hmmm…….. Thanks for the great idea!
