So, I know that rabbits can eat pumpkin but how much should they get? Because it is October and I use a lot of canned pumpkin in baking I wanted to let Hatter try some, but I don’t want to give him too much. Also, canned pumpkin is ok right? Can they eat any part of an actual pumpkin…seeds, “guts”, etc?? Thanks everybun!

Well, this is not really on the recommended food list for healthy rabbits. It is normally used for rabbits who are ill and need extra fiber. Canned is fine but I would only use it as a treat. Personally I think canned pumpkin tastes awful just by itself which is what you would want to give them – not the canned pumpkin pie mix.

OH! Well, maybe I will give him a VERY small taste of canned pumpkin on Halloween…in the mean time he will just have to stick to his Pumpkin “cookie” treats from the BB store. He LOVES those!

I give maybe a tablespoon between two rabbits.
At a little Hobby type farm i went to where they have a petting zoo, and grown X-mas tree for X-Mas and pumpkins for Halloween I found tehy fed WHOLE pumpkins to all the animals, inside and out, I saw horses eating them, goats, rabbits etc. Only mentioning this b/c I am thinking the whole pumpkin is probably safe, though I’d just stick to the parts I would eat (excluding seeds). I have fed fresh pumpkin once before, don’t remember the reaction to it.

              What did you bake?
I love Pumpkin treats (not pie, can’t stand that though), I’ve had friends add pumpkin to animals treat recipies and they’ve been a real hit, even dog cookies (my dog LOVED pumpkin).

Now that you mention it, I did see a field of cattle on the way to the stable and saw they had given them tons of pumpkins to eat last year!!
