I went into our tractor supply store looking for wood stove pellets and saw large bags which looked like pellets but it said “Wood Stove Fuel” Is that the same thing? I didn’t have a lot of time to look at the package so I didn’t know if it was the same thing. The word “fuel” threw me off. Also, if it is the same thing, is it safe for bunny to ingest? Baxter has to sample things and I know he would try to eat it.

That’s the stuff. Just check that it doesn’t contain any accelerant. The pelleted woods are considered safe as litter because the processing of the wood reduces the aromatic oils in the wood. Ypu can also use pelleted horse bedding it’s the same thing. And no worries if Baxter samples some as it’s just fibre. Of course, if he starts to eat lots then you’d have to rethink using it.

Thank you. I think I may go for the horse stuff if not too expensive. I hate spending a lot of money on litter. Especially with Baxter. He is so backwards! I just cleaned his litter box…or I should say tote…lol he is too long for a litter box. Anyway, I put the litter on one end and his hay on the other. He hopped in and sat on the hay and started eating the litter. lol he cracks me up sometimes.

I agree with Jersey – totally safe, even though it does say “fuel”. You should check for accelerants, but in general WSPs don’t have them because the whole point is for them to burn slowly, not quickly – accelerants would defeat the purpose.

Typically horse stall bedding is about the same price though.

Yup ditto to what Jersey and Elrohwen said. It’s still been 100 degrees here, I do wonder when Home Depot or Lowes is getting some in.

is accelerants all you have to look for?
