I have been given a truck load of broccoli leaves (i.e outer leaves of regular broccoli plant/ not the leafy varieties).  I’ve feed this to the buns before without issue. I’m just wondering if feeding too much would cause gas? Does anyone else feed these leaves?

The leaves have more of a chlorophyll smell (grass smell?)  rather than the smell of the broccoli head.

Smell stays after being thoroughly washed, right? just checking. Anyway, I think moderation is the key with all foods, especially switched ones. I have not fed these leaves, but I doubt it’s worse than the actual head of broccoli for gas. However, you could start out with a mix with something else that’s very gentle (green leaf lettuce) so they fill up but not totally on these.

Or just buy a big fan, feed em the bag, and let ‘er rip!

I give Dexter maybe a little piece of the leaf because I am scared of the gas problem. I am not sure how much would be ok to give them though.

Lol Pam! Do you know, I read a response on yahoo answers recently where someone claimed bunnies cannot pass gas (i’m being polite lol). “Not according to RabbitPam!” is what I immediately thought.

They seem to be managing them ok. I don’t think I’ll be able to use the lot – there’s so much.

Mocha200, if your buns have no problems eating that as their regular veg then it sounds fine to me. All those 3 are great bunny veggies.
