I could have sworn that sweet potatoes were safe for bunnies.    I had fed them little bit b4.

Then while I was at house rabbit society’s diet section I saw it is toxic.  OH dear no more sweet potatoes for them.  They didn’t seem to suffer any ill affects from it.

I happened to be looking to make sure the leaves of the willow is safe too.  Then I saw saw sweet potatoes in the toxic section.  Oh dear.

Going to be more vigilant about the toxic list.

Usually when I have something new to give them I look it up first.  Looks like I will be checking more often.

What a big mistake not double checking that sweet potatoes are safe. They love it too.  OH well.

Pretty sure the sweet potato is ok, but not the plant itself. Binky Bunny feeds some to Jack as part of his modified diet now. You just have to limit it as it’s a starchy veg. Carbs, sugar, etc, etc.

I’ve used it cooked in bunny cookies when I didn’t have pumpkin. Buns loved it!

Willow leaves dried or fresh are fine.

I’m certain sweet potatoe is OK! I mean it’s starchy so you stay away, but they said all squash is fine, and sweet potatoe is actually squash! Mine haven’t had it actually…but I’m looking forward to pumpkin carving so they can have some pumpkin again!

Thats good for mine love sweet potatoes.  I am relieved that it is ok.  Now they can have some on occassion.

Saw a willow tree by the road the other day.   It is a very  beautiful drive full of mango trees and wonderfully large trees.  River on one side and the other .  It is like a really narrow island.  The road is so narrow.

We stopped so I could get some willow for them .   They enjoyed it.  Ruby still goes into the bathroom to find it and it isnt’ there now more lol they ate it all.

Sweet potato is not toxic in the sense that it’s not poisonous. It’s like what Jersey said—high in starch, carb, sugar and so you just have to be careful with how much you feed. That is why it is on our “avoid” list but it is not considered toxic.

Jack does get a little fresh sweet potato, as recommended by my vet , since he is on pelletless diet. I give him a thin slice cut into several little pieces several times a week.
