OK.  Sorry to overwhelm with all the questions.  I know rabbits shed 3 – 4 times a year.  Hugo has been shedding since I met him almost 4 weeks ago whith no end in sight.  Every time you pick him up you are completely covered in fur.  I also just noticed yesterday he has bald spots?  Where his fur is a lot shorter than the fur he is shedding.  It’s in patches along his back, ribs and one of his hind legs.

Is this normal and is it normal for them to shed for so long?  Could it be because he started shedding, then neutered and then went to 2 new homes?  My last bunny would explode when he would shed and it didn’t last long.  I can remove handfuls of fur from Hugo daily.

        Thanks for your help.

I swear my rabbits only spend 3 months of the year *not* shedding. The rest of the time at least some hair is coming off. The really big sheds last a month or more – more if you count the tail end where they get the little tufts of fur by their butt that I try to pluck off while they run away.

The stress of moving could definitely be a cause too. Otto will finish a shed, then I’ll take him to the vet and he’ll start shedding all over again for at least a couple days. I just deal with shedding year round, and get really excited for those few months where the hair is manageable. Haha

Yup, sounds completely normal to me. Rabbits that don’t have bald patches and great tufts sticking out and floors without a decent layer of fur are rare sights in my household.

Some rabbits end up shedding year round due to the control temperatures in houses. Stress can also cause shedding. But it sounds like he’s having a molt, so it’s normal. Some rabbits do shed their fur in clumps and have bald patches.

Mine shed year round with periods where it’s more intense shedding where I can pull clumps off. But they never have a big molt or anything. It’s just constant petting with fur flying around. lol

Thanks for the replies! I know rabbits can shed a lot but I’ve never seen bald spots and since he’s white you can see his pink skin through his fur. I hope everything calms down with him soon.
