In the spring Arduina went for a check up and I was told she needed to loose a 1/2 pound to a pound.  She was about 6.5 lbs then.. and still waivers between 6-6.5 (our bathroom scale isn’t very accurate is part of the issue).

I have reduced her food, although now she shares with Leo, over the past 6 months.  Leo also weighs about the same (6-6.5 lbs) and probably could also loose a little weight too.  The two of them now share 1/4 C pellets in the morning and 3-4 C of veggies in the evening, and the obvious unlimited hay (timothy bluegrass or orchard).  They don’t get treats every day, but I would say 3-4 times a week, they will each get one raisin or a piece of dried papaya, typically.   This diet seems about the minimum according to HRS.. they each get ~1/8C of pellets/day and 1.5-2 C of veggies/day, so I don’t feel it can be reduced at all??

As far as exercise, they are free range in one room of the house and while we are home have the rest of the one story house to run around in.  Arduina is very active and loves to run and play around, while Leo typically lounges around.  Sometimes they will play chase (in the morning when they’re hungry for pellets).

How can I get them to loose some weight?  I know next check up the Vet is going to yell at me .

(Also, anyone know of an accurate bunny scale that is cheep?)

Do you think they need to loose weigh?

        Arduina and Leo say:

We’re not fat, tell her to feed us more, mmm more pellets!  We love treats too .. and veggies!

        “Is my butt too big?”

Mmm willow branches, our favorite!  Oh and order us more binkybunny treats!

As for a scale, you can sometimes find kitchen scales for sale online for cheap, or in discount home goods stores. That would be your best bet for getting accurate weight in that range.

Like so, and that one isn’t even on sale. I’m betting you could find one for under 20 somewhere, easy. I like to get online so I can check reviews – a quick google turned this one up, I’m sure some more extensive searching and you could find the perfect one. I would just try to check that it will weigh up to 8 pounds or whatever, but I think most decent kitchen scales should. You could try a baby scale if not, but I think they tend to be a little more expensive, more like 30-50.

I don’t know about weight – I had the same question myself recently! But maybe someone else can help. I was advised that you should be able to feel a “waist” on them, if you pet backwards over the ribs they should get a little thinner after the ribcage, not be wider where the ribcage ends. It does sound like you’re feeding them a healthy diet though.

I use a spring scale for mine. They can sometimes be found cheap on ebay, under $10. (they are used for weighing fish)
About the diet, it is my belief that indoor rabbits need such low amounts of calories… I only give a teaspoon of pellets each anymore and mine slimmed right down.
Your rabbits are just gorgeous and I do love your setup. ~

I picked up a postage scale on ebay for $20 and I love it. It has the tare setting so I set a plastic dishpan on it, zero it out and then pop the bunny in it and back on the scale. Since it’s good for up to 50 lbs I use it to weigh a lot of things.

Cute pictures – love the bunny butt one. I think you could reduce the pellets a bit more as well. Honestly they look at a healthy weight to me.
