So Oreo just woke up and I noticed her upper eyelid is swollen a bit and she had some crustiness under her eyelid.  She normally gets the daily eye crusty in the corner of her eye…but this was much more and under her lid as well.  I could see that just being from irritation from dust, fur, or something…however the swollen eyelid has me concerned.  I cleaned it up the best I could.

I tried taking a few pics but she did NOT want to stay still, so they’re not that great.  She’s being more jumpy than usual…  Let me know what you think…if it doesn’t clear up I guess I’ll be taking a trip to the vet..

        Thanks in advance…

Really it’s impossible to tell by the picture. But I definitely would take her to the vet – never take a chance when you have something wrong with the eye. I do see what you are talking about though.

Thanks Sarita…should I give it a day to see if it goes away? It just started today.

No, go ahead tomorrow and call the vet. It kind of looks like maybe she scratched it.

My bunny is having that problem too, did you find out what was wrong with her eyes?

Hi yogurtpopcorn… I actually never took her to the vet, it didn’t get worse than that day so I just kept an eye on her. It wasn’t secreting any infectious looking gunk, otherwise I would have taken her to the vet. She likely just scratched it. And since then, she’s had this happen here and there every once in a while and it’s no cause for concern. It typically clears up in two days or so. I have noticed if I’m overdue to clip her nails or if she’s shedding a ton and her blankets are extra furry/irritating to her eyes it might happen.

My other bunny has had this as well, and again it’s been an irritation, not infection. I think he had poked his eye with a piece of hay.

If the eye is really crusted and goopy, you could try to gently clean it if he/she lets you, but I would be very careful not to irritate it further. I also tried keeping it dry, but it was hard to do so because she was tearing quite a bit. I hope this helps?
