Sammy’s been in a good mood this week – kinda playful.

I have let her into my bedroom much more lately, since she is willing to come out after doing some bunny 500s. She’s also shedding a bit, so I’ve been combing her and generally she’s getting naps, and playtime, and treats.

So in the morning she’s been spunky. This morning she playfully growled and lunged at me then ran away doing binkies. I got the impression she wanted me to chase her a little, and she did some binkies and spins and hid, then came out, then ran again. So when we stopped and I was petting her head at my feet, I just scooped her up and held her!!!!!

I dont know if she was surprised or content, but I had her firmly on my chest and supported completely, so she let me hold her for about a minute. I lowered to my knees before she started to want down, by then she was very close to the ground. She hasn’t let me pick her up since last February I think. I think it surprised us both. I gave her a treat with a click, just in case that made any sense to her.

Maybe I can clicker her into letting me do it again.

Oh, my bunny gets mad if I hold her. She starts breathing x100 faster. But she’s just so cute, how can I not?

            What exactly is clicker training?

Yay!! I so need to get a clicker for Moose. He’s such a smart boy, he’d pick up on it fast I think.

Congratulations! What a breakthrough! And so sweet, I can see you in my mind’s eye playing ‘chicken’ with your bunny…lolz. Sammy almost has you trained to be a bunny…I wonder if she has her own clicker? 0_o
Ah, I wish I could get all 3 of mine to play with me like that. The closest I ever got was Mimzy’s “peekaboo” game. He would hide, then come out, then hide, then go bursting through the Bun-Galow at a high rate of speed, throwing binkies and landing sideways…it was so cute! ^_^

Not exactly a complete breakthrough since she won’t let me do it again at the moment.

I have 2 clickers. one stays on the coffee table near her basket and a box of raisins, and the other kind of floats from room to room, with another box of raisins. Raisins are the treat of last resort, but handy to stay fresh in a box for quite a while, so she will only get a couple at most, and never daily.

You can read up on clicker training on the http://www.clickertraining.com website.

I’ll try again in the morning, since that’s when she is most playful. Now she might, might let me snuggle her on the ground only. Did I ever tell you guys about the evening I was out for a while, then came home tired and lay on the rug to watch TV? Well, I ignored her as she played around. Then I felt whiskers on my arm. She stood in front of me where I usually grab for her and she runs, then comes back for a snuggle. I didn’t grab. More whisker tickles. I was pooped. No movement. Whiskers got much closer. I reached out finally, and she squished in without a fight. Ahhhhhh. zzzzzz.

When I first saw the thread title I gasped. Because I thought “could she? could she be thinking of getting bunny #2…..?” lol. Got a bit ahead of myself. Anyway, it’s good to celebrate this victory RP.

I just scooped her up and held her!!!!!

Confidence is great! Just doing it and letting them no there’s no hesitation makes such a difference. I found that when doing gland cleans last week and it went much quicker & all was forgiven much quicker too.

On postiveness and confidence, I’m reminded of a video I only just saw last week. You may have already seen it as went viral last year apparently. Hope you don’t mind my linking it here. It’s not bunny related but I think you might enjoy it. Maybe some affirmations in front of the mirror about picking up Sammy might be another way to get there! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qR3r…r_embedded

I don’t take bait – why don’t you guys just call me chicken and be done with it. LOL

I may get a second bun some day, but unlikely during hurricane season.

can you imagine anyone suited to Ms. Sammykins, other than a geeky milktoast?

aww… that’s so sweet! you will def have to pick her up every time she is behaving playfully like that! i had to practice picking up pinky because she generally objects and flails… but now we’ve got it down to a science! and she doesn’t even object when i try as long as she’s wantin cuddles
