        Hi Guys!

I did a quick search and didn’t find anything about it in here, so I apologize if someone already addressed this, and no hard feelings to the admins if they feel the need to delete it.

Matter of Trust is collecting human and animal hair to be stuffed into nylon stockings and used to absorb the oil from the spill in the Gulf.  Apparently human hair can collect 3x its mass in oil.  I found a small description at http://www.independent.com/news/201…oil-spill/:

        Ways Your Pet Can Help

The San Francisco-based charity called Matter of Trust has been collecting hair and using it to create mats that are then stuffed into nylons, making tubes or booms that help contain the oil. Matter of Trust can use all pet fur, wool, horse hair, feathers, and human hair. If you have your pet groomed, encourage your grooming parlor to donate all that hair. According to hairstylist and oil spill hair mat inventor Phil McCrory, “You shampoo your hair because it gets greasy. Hair is very efficient at collecting oil out of the air, off surfaces like your skin and out of the water, even petroleum oil.” To learn more about how you can donate your hair or your pet’s hair, visit matteroftrust.org.

So I thought it’d be really cool if we could all get together and do this if it’s not being done already!  I’ve signed up and will be getting the address to one of their warehouses soon.  My username on Excess Access is the same as it is here.  If anyone’s interested in donating their hair and their pets’ hair send me a PM and I’ll get you the address of the warehouse as soon as I’m given it.  You can alternatively sign up on your own but I found the process to not be very user-friendly.

That sounds like a GREAT idea! It’s not like you’re loosing any $ or anything – unless you spin the hair for knitting – but I think we only have a couple members on here that have the skills to do that I actually heard about it a week or so ago on the radio. Unfortunately (but fortunately for me) no one is shedding. I’l keep it in mind inf anyone starts a molt soon!

I’ve been seriously considering doing this. I’ve saved every bit of fur Mr. Bunny has lost in a bag (yes, odd, I know) so I have a whole lot now.

I could easily collect my dogs and cats hair.  But the bunnies hair- especially Cotton and Schroeder (Mini Lops)- they have thick fluffy hair that goes EVERYWHERE when it is combed.  It is much softer than cat hair and seems lighter as it wafts around everywhere- except when I use the HairBuster comb.  Griffin’s fur is more sleek so it is not was “wafty”.  Does anyone else have this problem with rabbit hair???

Bindi’s hair is like that too. After I brush him I see little white tufts in the air!

if you use the cat-brush style, with all the fine teeth in a brush pattern, when I had Todd that worked a little TOO well for catching it.

I heard about that.   That thing is leaking way more oil than BP is telling.  They were forced to give videos over to the states after much chasing after.   And whoa  talk about a gusher.

Such a shame.  Honestly I don’t think we could get enuf hair for to collect the oil.  It is going to be coming aound to where we live once it hits that stream.

So much for drill baby drill.    Mr. Pres said he would get more companies to go green.  I know he has a lot on his to do list and that health care sure took some work.    However I think now is the go green time.
