So today was the day! After a long excursion coming from Vancouver Island (had to take a ferry over), the new addition – temporarily still ‘Charleston’ – is now home. He is a sweet little mini rex boy and is tiny! Very happy and active little guy. He is flopping, hopping, munching, drinking and pooping. This move has been a lot less stressful when compared to Sully. Sully barely ate and sat in a corner for at least a couple days. This little guy has made himself right at home. Sully also hates car rides and literally shakes in his carrier. This guy was flopped out and just watching the world go by. He is awesome to handle, his past owner did a great job socializing him. I am trying not to handle him too much but it is so hard to resist that velvety rex fur! I think Sully is jealous! He has been extra lovie and has been letting me give him tons of pets and cuddles and following me around the edges of his Xpen when I walk past. Don’t worry, I still love you Sully! Anyways, I didn’t get to taking any pictures tonight, it’s been a long day with setting up the cages/xpens, travelling, getting the buns settled, etc. Hopefully I can snap a few tomorrow.

Yay for new bunny!!! Glad he took the move well, it can be hard to watch a little bun cower in fear at a car ride

And yes, you MUST post pics soon, or the sticks will come out… *waves poking stick threateningly*

lol no need to use those sticks!! here are some pictures I took this morning

The setup: Sully on the right, new bunny on the left

Just for a size comparison… he fits in this little hay hut, Sully can barely fit his fat butt in there haha

I found him flopped out in here… he’s so relaxed!

Here he is being disapproving… (He settles down like this after getting some good head rubs)

Yes, I went a little picture crazy!!

He is all over me as soon as I get into the Xpen…

                    Such a willing model!

Barbie, I hope he grows up to be as handsome as your Leroy!! What would you call Leroy’s colouring? I was told mine was a broken castor

bunnytowne – i love the mustache too! gives him a cute look!

A behaviour question, do bunnies thump their feet when playing? (I know it is more common to thump when nervous/scared.) However, the new bun seems to run around and play and thump at the same time… I don’t think he’s scared, as he is flicking his head and seems to be having fun. He usually does this when he is already being active and running around. He even thumped and ran up to me and sat in front of me. Not sure what this is, since Sully only thumps when he’s annoyed! lol

Also, are baby bunnies able to be out on grass? The weather has been great lately and I put Sully out on the grass, but wondering if an 8 week old bun can eat grass or would this upset his tummy?

Maybe the thumping is a rex thing? Leroy does that too. And he’s just having fun. It’s just his way of communicating, so I wouldn’t worry about it if he otherwise seems happy and not fearful.

I’m not sure about the grass…. the HRS site says to hold off on veggies until they’re several months old… but hay is basically just grass. So I’m not sure about that one. However, I wouldn’t take him outside. I know the weather is nice and I’m sure he would enjoy it but because he’s still just a baby, I’d wait a bit and let him build up his immune system before bringing him outside where there could be all manner of things on the grass that he could catch.

Leroy thanks you for the compliment! I got Leroy from a shelter, so I didn’t have the benefit of a breeder’s knowledge, but I did some research online and he definitely has a “broken” fur color. I think he’s a broken blue. His fur is grey with some brown underneath. The colored fur is funny because it is white at the end closest to the skin, then light brown in the middle, then grey at the ends, so he looks grey but thwn you part his fur you see all the brown!

Barbie, i really love Leroy’s colouring, that’s why I asked! And I really do think he is having fun when he’s thumping, so I won’t worry too much about it.

Also, what do you guys think of the name Jeremy? I just think it suits him for some reason! Its only drawback is the fact it’s so long.. not as easy to say as Sully

Thanks everyone!!! He is really settling in, and is using his litterbox 100%! I am so surprised, I thought since he was so young that he would be messier. Also, I posted a question about him in the Diet section if anyone could help me out!

And, is it normal for a little bun to drink so much water? He is drinking a full water bottle every two days… Sully drinks maybe half a water bottle in that time or not even.

Thanks everyone! He sure is a feisty little guy… quite different from lazy and cuddly Sully lol! He binkies and shoots around like crazy, and will even nip my leg if I am in his way (which I am not too happy about and stamp my foot at him and ‘nip’ him in the bum with my fingers. Anyone know how I can discourage this behaviour?) He is so curious, and as soon as I come in the room he is at the front of his Xpen. He is usually more calm during the day and really enjoys head rubs when loafing. He doesn’t mind being handled at all, he can just get squirmy if I’m not holding him the right way. This is only his third day here and i’ve already learned all of this about him! He really is outgoing, maybe this is a mini rex personality? He has definitely made himself at home and doesn’t seem phased by anything thrown at him.

Sully is such a chubby and lazy little guy… He likes to lounge around a lot and will sit nice and still for some cuddles and kisses and will come when I call him. When I’m holding him he is always still and never struggles. He bonks me with his nose if he thinks I’m in his way, but I don’t think he would ever bite. He doesn’t seem to have a mean bone in his body! He is definitely more shy but I have built a bond with him and it was well worth it. It has taken him about two months to fully settle in a new home with all the new sounds, smells, and sights, but he really is an affectionate guy and he helped me to ‘learn’ how to bond with a bunny!

It’s nice to have the best of both worlds. I have my chilled out little lop and my feisty curious little rex. I’m kind of glad, I think if I had two lazy buns like Sully it might be a bit boring, but if I had two feisty buns then it would be too much! Does anyone else feel the same way about their buns? Who knows if they will ever be the right fit for a bond, either way i love them both and they are staying with me!

AND I’ve decided on a name! Finally! I’m going with Frankie (Sorry Rachel, I just love the name and it seemed to fit him!) I liked the name Jeremy too but it was too long. So officially introducing Frankie! It’s going to be an interesting learning curve with such a different bunny than what i’m used to but I’m excited
