        Im a little nervous!!

I just got off the phone with a vet that my friend highly recommended to me. She took her Lionhead bunny there a year ago, and he got neutered! She said while in the waiting room, there was MANY exotics waiting for the doctor  .. like a huge lizard and bird. I checked up reviews online and all reviews had 5 stars

So I phoned the place today and the receptionist was super nice.

        What will happen is..

On May 6th (my first day off from work), I will take little Chacha in at 8 am to fill out paperwork. she will be examined by the doctor BEFORE to make sure she is 100% healthy. I can ask questions, etc before. She will get fixed if she is good. She will be staying overnight to be watched  Which I think is a good thing. The spay will cost $135. Not bad. I am happy that she will be in good hands…

I am just nervous  What do I expect after she comes home with me the next day?

My female came to me spayed, so I don’t have advice, but I do want to add some good spay vibes here. (((((((((Chacha)))))))))))
You do need to limit her movements afterwards, and expect a little lack of appetite (don’t let it go too long)…she can’t be jumping up on anything for fear of tearing stitches. Also, if she chews at them, they may give you one of those collars to put on her.

Reasonable spay price and they do sound good. You can expect her to be very quiet for a few days after the surgery.

With Monkey, I had to make sure she didn’t have anything to jump or climb onto, had to keep her in a confined area for awhile. At first it was her cage with a litter box and a little bed, then I let her have a bit more room in a playpen I shrunk down so ti was smaller than normal. Wasn’t for at least a week until I let her have her full playpen, minus climbing stuff and stuff she could jump to.

She didn’t have much of an appetite til the day after, when she just couldn’t resist the cilantro and raisins.

So yeah, just keep her in a safe area, check her stitches every day, I did by holding up a raisin so Monkey had to stand on her hind feet to get it, and she should be good.

ditto to all of what sarita and monkeybun said. i was a little paranoid about checking her stitches because i wasn’t sure what healthy pink vs red was but my vet’s office was super supportive. i even took a pic of her incision and posted it here for feedback… lol. everything went really well.

sounds like you’ve found a good solid exotics vet to goto… nice job. sending out lots of ((((((good spay vibes)))))) for your chacha!

My advice is to realize that she will be in some pain and not feeling well so expect her to act accordingly. I stayed up the whole night I brought Olivia home, she was so uncomfortable and it was really upsetting for me. But by the next morning she was eating a bit and more alert. Spays are such routine procedures that a lot of us forget that it is major surgery so it takes bunny time to recover. All of my bunnies, spayed or neutered, had weird mushy poos after the surgery and it took a few days to remedy itself. So don’t be too alarmed if this happens to ChaCha.

                    Thank you all
So mushy poops? Thank you for informing me of this!!
Chacha has a second floor she hops onto. I will be sure to take that off before I leave. It will just be her bed, food/water and litter box for a little whiles.
When is she allowed to jump up onto things? That is one of her favorite activiites

I would give it one whole week before letting her jump.

Thanks everyone I really appreciate it
I am glad the vet place is keeping her overnight.
I am going to miss her though.. her crazy couch jumping. But it is all good, to make sure she never endures the pain of unspayed buns..
