My albino Oscar came down with Ich. I added aquarium salt and cranked up the heater to 82. If he isn’t improving in the morning I will go buy some tank treatment. Sigh. He got this from a stupid feeder goldfish that I fed him. I am NEVER doing that agian!!!!!!!!! I was too careless and didn’t inspect the goldfish before feeding. My poor baby has his fins tucked in and looks miserable. Hopefully this natural treatment will work.

If you get an actual treatment don’t forget to take your carbon filters out.  My husband did NOT on our freshwater tank since he had read that carbon is exhausted in a matter of days- and needless to say the treatment did NOT work- so the carbon will still have some effect on the meds.  It is just not as effective on normal water quality after it has been in for a couple of days.

Good Luck and I hope your buddy makes it!  I know what it is like to have a fish for years and then have something happen- it is pretty sad.  We had 2 parrot fish (hybrids that true freshwater hobbyists hate) and they were huge- they even paired up and laid sterile eggs.  Then hubby did too large of a water change even though the tank was super stable- been set up for years.  Overnight the water turned milky colored and we lost one of the parrot fish. : (  I had named them Smuckers and Bumble.  So I traded Smuckers in (so he could be in a larger tank) and we started the freshwater tank inhabitants over with Blue Rams, bristlemose plecos, amano shrimp (3) and 2 Glo Fish (another true freshwater hobbyist no-no).

Ah Katnip I love parrot fish! I think they are the cutest things ever! I actually had a pair of them that laid eggs but they were sterile and just ate them after about a week!

He doesn’t seem to be doing better today, I’m going to go to petstore and pick up some ick meds

I had an outbreak of ick from forgetting to quarantine some new cories I got last month I hate that stuff I just now am starting to see some improvement! I did the salt and temp raising method.

Hope your fishy gets better soon!

I have 1 big parrot (If I am thinking of the same fish Blood Parrots, Blood Parrot Cichlid, Red Parrots?) he is about 6″ and growing fast now. He only has 1 pectoral fin so he swims in circles sometimes lol.

This is my guy when he was still itty bitty his name is Eros can’t see all of him since he was still shy at the time. He is way too big for his favorite cave now!

Cranked my heater up some more, it said 82 but its still not even close. He looks uphappy, he has his fins squished close to his body but he’s swimming and eating when I am in the room…there is one feeder fish left in the tank he is currently after right now, I think he’s going to be okay, the salt is helping.

Very cute parrot fish, they are sooooo soo cute! I love their little mouths! I love their eyes too, it looks like they have eyelids that give their faces more expressions!

The salt treatment usually helps unless it is really really bad. I just got another rescue Oscar (albino) who has a severe case of Ick and gill flukes so I will be treating him in the morning with medication.

I know their little mouths look like they are smiling all the time. Only bad thing is my guy loves small fish and will try to school with them but every now and then he will get one stuck in his mouth so he can only be housed with bigger fish. I mean literally he will be swimming around and a guppy or neon tetra will just swim right in and get stuck.

Glad he is eating and swimming around always a good sign

Adding healthy fishy vibes…it is really hard to treat sick fishies, because you can’t pull them out and hug them to make them feel better like you can other pets. ((((((((((((((((((((((Oscar get better vibes))))))))))))))))
