Some of you know that I deal w/ chronic pain. I have whats called Intractable Migraines- meaning I have constant head/neck pain, sensitivity to light/sound/smells, nausea and so on.

They put me in the hospital for several weeks last summer to try and “fix” me. Did all kinds of procedures on me and I was constantly being pumped w/ IV meds. I did come out feeling better but the decent relief only lasted about 1 month.

I am back to being in so much constant pain that I just want to throw up all the time. The pain is so overwhelming and taking Oxy around the clock doesnt even touch the pain anymore. My scalp is so sensitive that if I just touch my head it feels like my fingers are a bunch of needles.

This week has been the worst I think I have had since 2007 when I abruptly up and quit my job because I refused to put myself thru the extra torture. I was off almost one year before I felt I could really go back to work even part-time. This week in addition to my constant pain meds, muscle relaxers and everything else I am (have Fibromyalgia too) on, I had to give myself these nasty shots. They helped for a few hours and then things got back to being nasty again.

My Cleveland Clinic neurologist is sending me back to the neurosurgeon up there because I truely have been on everything there is to be on. Really. In 12yrs Ive exhausted all meds I can take. My neurologist had no ideas for any meds and he is one of the best headache specialists in the country! So..they are sending me to the surgeon to put a stimulator in my head. The hope is that a nerve stimulator (most are put in the spine for back pain) would help block the pain receptors so that it would help at least hide my mind from the fact the pain is present. They tried to do the surgery last year and insurance refused. So fingers crossed this year they approve. I guess we should ask them what bright ideas they have if they deny it again?

Truthfully, this is the time I wish they would just have pity on me like one of our sick bunnies.

Sorry, I just had to let this out.

Important you let it out if you’re feeling that way. Have you got a counsellor? I’m truly sorry you have bad pain for so long! I can’t imagine.

Have you tried any alternative treatments before? I know some can really only help on low grade ailments but acupuncture is one that is used more now in mainstream medicine.

I wish I could wave a wand and make it go away! All I can offer is (((Vibes))) for you.

I am so sorry you’re dealing with this.  I can barely stand to have a run of the mill mild headache.  I can’t even imagine how I would function with the kind of pain you’re experiencing.  Fingers crossed that you’ll get approved for the surgery.  Hopefully the new health care laws will work in your favor.

Hugs to you Hedi. I cannot imagine the pain you must be in. And it sounds terribly frustrating that nothing is helping. I hope that the insurance does not deny the procedure again.

You can always come here to vent!

I’m prone to migraines, though not nearly to the extent you are, and they are the worst pain in the world. It’s so hard to think or function with a migraine. I really hope your doctors are able to come up with something to help you manage your pain!

OMG that is some kind of pain.  Ouch  the kind that makes you vomit.  I feel for you I really do.

Had a myelogram and omg   I thought I was going to die.  For 1 whole week I was on Aqtic then I had to have meds to keep the meds down.  Light forget it tv forget it.

Mine ended in a week.   You have had this for a long time.   I pray that your insurance will cover this.  IF they dont’ perhaps your Dr. can harangue them with how you truly need it   til they cave.

                        Thanks everyone!

I have done some alternative treatments- Chiropractic, Massage and Accupuncture but they havent worked on me long term and they are just so expensive. Also was on several vitamins and minerals only for quite awhile but didnt have a decrease in pain- Q10, B2, B12, Feverfew, Magnesium, etc. Most things only work a few months and then things just go back to status quo w/ me.

Go figure my husband is out of town this week for work so Im alone. Im gonna have my dad run me to the ER after I teach my first class today to see what they can do. These past 10 days or so have been so constant that Im afraid to let it go any longer. Dont want to have something horrible like a stroke happen just because I didnt take care of it.

I’ll keep you in my thoughts, and hope that you can find some sort of relief… hope the ER docs can help! *crosses M&M’s ears for luck*
