At the expo last year Mary Ellen met a lady from Doxi Delights who makes these really cool “Take Along Bags”.  They’re like slings that you can carry your animals in without putting them in a carrier.  Lots of bunny folks bought them last year and I finally broke down and got one this year.  I haven’t put anyone in it yet, but I’m dying to!  Everyone at my house is molting and I don’t want the hassle of defurring it while it’s still brand new.

Anyway, the next time I have to go to the pet store I’m totally taking Zinnia with me.  Or Trouble.  When they get along I’ll take them both.  They’ll both fit cuz I got a medium.  The one in the picture is one that they made for Bunny Lu.  I got one in the brown checkered pattern.  If it’s OK to post a link I will but not until someone says I can.

I also need to ask you guys what type of harness would fit a 12 lb rabbit. The ones I see for rabbits are way too small. There’s a hook in the bag that connects to a harness so the bunnies (or dogs, if you buy it for the animal it was intended for…lol) don’t escape.

I bet you could find a cat harness that would work for a large bunny.

              Very cute!

Hmmm…I might have to take her to the store in the bag so I can try some on here. :0)

How does this work? The rabbit would be on a harness and inside the bag? TARM, maybe this isn’t a safe way of transport; what if the rabbit spooks, does jump out and finds himself stuck in a harness; it could end badly.

No, you don’t transport them in it…lol In the car she’d be in a carrier. This is for when you’re walking around…either in the house or at an event or something. I carried three different rabbits in one all day on Saturday and they all loved it! They snuggled down in it and went to sleep. They didn’t have harnesses on either. One of the bunnies I held kept poking her head up to look around and then burrowed back down. I kept my hand in there and petted them and they ate that up.

As far as spooking goes the instinct seems to be to burrow down rather than jump out. Maybe you have to see a bunny in it to know what I mean. The expo was loud and there were lots of strange smells and was generally a scary place with dogs trying to sniff at the bunnies. All three of the ones I had in the bag hunkered down. I think the close quarters made them feel safe.

I see, carrying your bunnies kangaroo style.
I just happen to own a very spazzy rabbit… he would have jumped out and whipped through the Expo grounds. Haha. Glad it works for you.

Ah. Yeah, I would not try to put Digger or Tank in it. But I think the rest of my herd would totally dig it.

TARM I sent you a PM with suggestions for harnesses (trying to be careful about not posting other websites )

Yeah… I tried carrying Leroy in a canvas bag, which I think is similar, but maybe not as snuggle-y. Anyway, he was having NONE of it. I wish I could have gotten him to settle down, that would be fun to carry them around like that!

I used to put my gerbils in the big pockets of my sweater and carry them around. They were not thrilled by it 😛

Petzy…they might…lol! It’s machine washable so if they do..in the washer it goes. The three at the expo didn’t. There were no poos in there either.

Barbie, thanks! I’ll check that now!

                                Hmmm…I didn’t get the PM.

                                  Ok I resent it TARM…

The second time, I went to the message center and clicked “Compose Message”. The first time, I clicked on your name and went to your profile, and clicked “Send Message” on the right side of the page. The “Send Message” option brought up a little pop up window which was different from usual, so maybe that was it… I don’t know if I explained it very well… bu I should let Jennifer know if there’s a glitch with the “Send Message” option….

I’ve been seriously considering getting a pet stroller to walk my bunnies outside. Just up and down the street so they could get some nice fresh air. I think Bindi would have a blast! My bf and Mom think I”m crazy and they are right

                                        Puffy,

I have pet stroller and Pebbles doesn’t mind going in it because I put a small litter pan in the rear of the stroller and a soft fuzzy bed in the front area for traction. The stroller itself is all enclosed and has a handy basket below the carrying area.  I don’t put water or food while we are walking because it would just be a mess. But if we stop somewhere I put a travel bowl of water and a hay cake in with Pebbles. She never takes any water or cake – but I don’t want her need it and not have it. The first stroll you take – I recommend putting bunny in the stroller and then zipping it up and walk a ways, and take a break – leave bunny in the stroller and let them investigate. I also recommend doing some small trips in your house so that bunny will get used to the stroller and know that it is safe.

When I take Pebbles out on the town – I don’t unzip her stroller for people topet her. I just let them look – 1. I don’t want Pebbles to become fearful of the stroller and a bunch of strangers touching her. 2. I don’t want her to jump out – the stroller I have is one that doesn’t have internal harness clip. We do get lots of attention once people actually look and see that it is not a child in the stroller.

Hindsight – I would have probably got a stoller base that you just set a pet  carrier on – that would have worked better. But for now, Pebbles goes into her carrier – into the car – travels – then gets put into her stroller. But I sure do like having her with me when we go out. Now that she has gotten used to the stroller she normally rides in the litterpan, and once we stop she moves to her bed and looks out the mesh windows. I think she enjoys it, when we get home she isn’t stressed – and she does peeand poo’s in her stroller litter pan (when Pebbles is stressed she doesn’t poo) and when we get home she eats like a she starving (which she isn’t – but again when she is stressed she won’t eat either).

I’m also considering using the stroller as part of her bonding with Dante her new husbun that came home with us 3/20/10. I’ll try to get some pictures and get them posted in the next few days. See full size image Here is a picture of the style I have (and yes mine is pink).

Zinni lubs her bag! I should have gotten her a large instead of a medium but she did really well in it. We went to Petco (I needed ferret food) and got her a pink harness, which I would take a picture of but I dropped my camera and broke it. This picture is the only one I was able to save.

And please do not pay attention to what I look like. Egads I hope my working out shows progress soon!
