I’m so worried about her. I took her to the dental vet last week for her abscess/impacted tooth and the vet said it was so inflammed and infected she could not pull it and to continue with baytril and metacam and see her in 2 weeks which will be next Tuesday.
She’s been having very runny stools the past few days and I can see she is starting to get very uncomfortable – her jaw feels so hard, I’m afraid the inflammation is not going down and we won’t be able to pull this tooth again. Not to mention the dental vet said the puss was so thick which is typical in rabbits and she was concerned about the infection being so close to the brain.
Also my neighbors are getting new siding and they are working and pounding all day long so I know that my rabbits aren’t enjoying the pounding and that’s not helping Emmy heal either.
I can only only hope that next Tuesday, we can get that tooth pulled – if not, I’m not sure what I’m going to do. I’ve had a brief discussion about this with my regular vet and she really wants to see if we can get that tooth pulled otherwise I don’t think we can do much more. It’s very far back in the jaw which is the problem.
With the runny stools, I’m so tempted to take her off the baytril, but I know that would be wrong. The baytril is compounded so it’s possible the compounding solution is causing the runs. I keep saying it’s only one week away, only one week away to the dental vet. I hope she doesn’t start to deteoriate since she’s been doing fine until this week.
((Healthy vibes for Emmy)) I hope she can get that tooth pulled and feel better!

Hugs to you and your Emmy! I hope all goes well on Tuesday.
Poor Emmy! (((((((((((((((((healing vibes)))))))))))))))) Sarita, can she lap up some Benebac or something to help counteract the digestive effects of the Baytril?
Sorry to hear about your neighbors’ noises…what a nasty coincidence.
I hope Emmy feels better and they can help her on Tuesday. ((((hugs))))
May I please be greedy and ask for more vibes for Emmy. I’m extremely worried that if we cannot get this tooth pulled on Tuesday, I am going to have to make a decision that I don’t want to to end her suffering. Also I really want Ms. Emmy to feel better.
Can you give Emmy Metacam for the pain? Bunnies love that and it seems to be an effective pain-killer. Tues. is fast approaching, health vibes and good luck vibes that that tooth can come out. She knows you love her, keep that in mind, and she loves you back even if discomfort is keeping herfrom telling you so…
Hi Lashkay, I am giving her metacam daily. Thank you for for your advice and vibes. I do hope that the metacam is helping with the pain.
{{{{{{{Emmy}}}}}}} I know you’ve been terribly worried over her and it’s been a hard time with the bunnies of late. Many (((Hugs))) to you also. Know you continue to be in my thoughts.
Dittos here, Sarita, hang in there both of you ((((hugs)))) Kathy
Ms. Emmy feel better! I hope the tooth can be pulled, on Tuesday. It is hard to wait out the time to find out about your pet’s health situation, but let’s hope Tuesday will have good news!

(((lots of dental vibes and painkillers))))) Kathy
Kathy, thank you. Sadly we decided that it was best to let Emmy go to the Bridge. The vet called me while she was under anesthesia and well, I knew that Emmy was not getting better so I was prepared. We decided to go ahead and let her go while she was under anesthesia, it was hard for me because I would have liked to have been there but I knew it was best at this time. I had already said my good-byes to her. This has been a very very tough year for me. I will miss Emmy.
Many people may not realize how serious infected teeth can be for rabbits. I have had to deal with them at the shelter and quite often they are a life or death decision to be made. I cannot express the loss of a pet to something that we take for granted with our own selves.
Binky free little Emmy!
Hugs for you Sarita, it HAS been a rough year hasn’t it?
This makes me so sad. All day I’ve been anxiously awaiting an update and praying that it would be good one. I am so sorry for your loss Sarita and send many hugs and warm thoughts out to you. Binky free sweet Emmy!
Oh Sarita, my heart is breaking for you on yet another loss. You are such an angel to take in and love the ones that need it the most and they seem the most heartbreaking to lose.
Was Emmy the mate to any of the other babies that have passed this year? I will light candles for Emmy, Ms Twizzler and the beautiful Giselle so they will have plenty of light to find each other and play,
(((((soft bunny hugs and much love from all of us)))))
Oh no Sarita. I am so sorry she had to go. You are right it was best this way. Those things can infect your whole body especially a bunny. To go while under anesthesia was a good way to go. Sounds like you had been preparing yourself for this as she wasn’t getting better.
You take care you did the right thing.
I’m so sorry for your loss…Binky free Emmy!!!!
Sarita I am so sorry to see this news.
Sometimes I think it helps to believe that, when we lose more than one animal companion in so short a time, even though age is a factor, it may be because those who have passed are calling the ones remaining from the other side. In his last week with us, Taiku often seemed preoccupied with his immediate environment, like there was a noise coming from somewhere only he could hear. Shadow behaved similarly, but with more ‘absentia’. And now they are all together and I get the feeling they are enjoying Paradise.
I hope you can find peace in the knowledge that your babies are reunited now in those green fields. And someday in our far off futures, we will rejoin these blessed friends.

God Bless you and Emmy. May she be having many binkies over the Bridge. (((((((((((((((((((hugs)))))))))))))))
So sorry to hear about Emmy I was really hoping there’d be good news today.
– Annette
Warm condolences, Sarita. Emmy is completely pain free and hopping excitedly and playing in that big Carrot Patch in Paradise and someday in the far-off distant beyond, you will be reunited with her and all of those near and dear to you in your life-time. I hope your pain over the difficult but loving decision you made today to let her go while she was pain-free under anesthesia, will quickly become happy memories of your lives together and the loving life you shared with her. My condolescent thoughts and prayers are with you.
My condolences, Sarita. I was so sad to read this today. ****Bunny Hugs*****

Binky free, Emmy, with the other Rainbow Bridge bunnies!
Sarita, is it okay for me to ask how you got Emmy, what her story was, and her little quirks? I would just like to know what she was like.
I got Emmy from a lady who did horse and dog rescue. I cannot remember how she rescued her but she did not feel equipped to care for a rabbit. Also Emmy was extremely terrified when I acquired her and would moan and mumble – I suspect much of that was due to being unspayed. She was adopted out at one time and the family was losing their home so she came back to me (with Kathy’s Lola). I got Emmy at the end of 2003 – I have no idea how old she was when I got her but she was full grown and of course the lady who rescued her had not much information either.
Once Emmy calmed down she was quite a character. She was very independent but loved to be petted. I think the couple that initially adopted her loved her but she wasn’t quite the cuddle bun that they expected but then neither was Lola :~) I was actually glad she came back to me because I enjoyed having her around.
I’m sos sorry to hear about Emmy.
Binky free little Emmy!

Oh no! I’m so sorry! I’ve been so preoccupied with my own issues I haven’t checked back on this thread.
I’m sorry for all of your losses this year. You are such a strong person to be able to handle so much loss in such a short amount of time. (((hugs)))
Sarita, my condolences also. Thank you for giving Emmy a wonderful home and much love. Binky Free Emmy!
Thank you to everyone for their condolences. It’s been a very tough year for me. I got a call today from my wonderful vet and luckily I did not break down and cry my goofy eyes out.
It’s weird for me because I now only have 5 rabbits…I’ve lost a total of 4 in the last 6 months. It’s been a very hard 6 months and emotionally exhausting. I’m really hoping I’m done with my losses this year. I told my vet that even though all my rabbits are over 6 years old, I really don’t feel that in this day and age that is old. Dear Emmy was an unfortunate loss for me because she has always been healthy so I think that it was hard to lose her knowing that up until a month ago, she was perfectly healthy. My 3 other dears that crossed the bridge were experiencing problems for a long time so it was a bit easier to understand – don’t get me wrong, it really does hurt losing them but it was easier.
I’m glad you told us about her (and Lola!). I was wondering how old Emmy was. Simba was kinda that way when I first got him, not terrified, but just moaning and crying when you had to pick him up, it quite un-nerved me for a long time. Can you make a guess as to how old Lola might be and if the rescue lady knew anything about her? You’re right, definitely NOT the cuddle bun, but when she comes to the top floor of the condo and lets me scratch one spot on her forehead she almost passes out with aaaaahhhhhhhhh..
Do you think Emmy and Lola were bonded at one time? I’ve always wanted to ask more about Pepe, he seems to be quite the character like Emmy.
I’ve thought that I would like to provide a home for senior buns to live out their lives but now I wonder if I could stand it when they have to pass.
How many buns have you had over the years? Sorry for all the questions, I am so very sorry you’ve had so many losses in such a short time.
Binky free beautiful Emmy and watch over your mom slave
A bunny hospice, kralspace? That would be something. Few people truly know how to care for geriatric animals.
OK, so Emmy would moan and mumble? What did that sound like?
oh sarita… i’m so sorry to be reading this thread. it’s really heartbreaking to have to make these kinds of decisions. i wish you lots of future bunny love to help heal ((((((hugs))))))
