I have two dogs, Maltese and golden retriever.  They both LOVE LOVE LOVE to eat bunny poop.  I don’t know why and where they learned it.  Everytime they go near the bunny cage, they both snoop and circle around the cage looking for bunny poop that flew out of the cage.  I think it’s funny and cute but concerned if it could have any health issues to my dogs.

        Anyone have any experience?

So long as the buns are healthy-and your dog gets wormed according to the schedule your vet has (it depends on where you live) it’s totally fine. It’s their vegetable intake heheh

Dogs also love horse poop which is pretty much the same only bigger Really it’s just partly digested hay

Mikey, my dog, would like to say that part of his daily diet is evening bunny poops-and also to stop judging him because they are yummy

I’ve noticed from alot of people on here that their dogs love the “Bunny treats”. Its not really harmful at all, just processed grass

I don’t know about bunny poops but when I had my guinea pigs my dog would go nuts for their poop. When I would try vacuum she would race around the cage trying to eat them up before I got the vacuum over them lol. Right now my cat just likes to play with Dexter’s stray poops like it’s a toy..kinda gross lol

My dogs both go nuts over the bunny poop. I don’t even clean up after the bunnies run around any more. I just fold up the gates separating the dogs vrom the bunnies and let the dogs handle it.

The nice thing about herbivores are their poop is pretty much free of disease and bacteria that make carnivore and omnivore poop so bad. That is why the poop is so good for your compost or garden with minimal composting. It is the other pop that needs real high heat to kill the above mentioned baddies.

Now this isn’t to say that eating an unlimited diet of bun poo is good!

As always the the dose is the poison!

What a relief!! It’s also good to know that I somehow didn’t end up with ‘strange’ dogs. When I clean the cage, I cannot leave the litterbox on the floor otherwise my dogs will clean it out for me.

My dogs also do the same- they even follow the bunnies around when they are out to “hoover” up the poo- and if they think it has been too long they nudge the rabbit over to check underneath them.  As long as the bunny has had a negative stool sample- it is fine for the dog to eat bunny poo in moderation.  Once one of the dogs got into the cage when the bunny was out- scarfed out of the litterbox and then came upstairs and vomited rabbit poo and hay on our living room carpet- it was so, so gross.

My dogs think my bunnies are their personal Pez dispensers!

One of my dogs will lay down next to the pens and try to snag poos in the pen with her tongue and pull them out to eat them.  It is a pretty serious dog hobby here in my house.
