I have a problem.  In December I started dating a guy who took an interest in my involvement with rescue.  He is a programmer by trade and offered to re design our website, which we desperately need.  The one we have is horribly out of date and none of the volunteers knows how to do web design.

I broke it off with that guy yesterday…I just wasn’t that into him (ha!)…and did not want to continue seeing him for the sake of getting a new website.  I don’t use people like that.   But now I need to find someone else to do our site and I need them to donate their time and talent.  How do I go about snagging a generous person like this?

And no, I’m not going to ask that guy if he’d consider still doing the site because I need that break to be clean.  He was WAY too clingy and dropped the L-bomb already.  Red flags galore so I really need him to stay out of my bidness, if you know what I mean.

Any and all suggestions are welcome and appreciated.

Ugh. I know. That’s the reaction I’m anticipating when I tell them.

Sorry your boy-toy didn’t work out! Sounds like you’re well rid of him 😛

Do you have any local colleges that offers a program in design? An animal loving student may be interested in working on your website in order to gain something for their portfolio and help out animals at the same time. Maybe you could post a flier at the school or email someone in the department.

I almost volunteered to do it, but I haven’t designed a website in almost 10 years! I’m sure I’m very behind the times 🙁

Awww, thanks El. Maybe I can contact someone in the department and ask for volunteers? Hmmm…

I’ve known graphic designers who design sites for family and friends (for free) in order to use the sites for their resume. I bet someone in the department could point you in the right direction for looking for volunteers. I know if I was in graphic design or something I’d be very willing to design a site for a rescue.

And once somebody designs the site, it’s fairly easy to maintain them – maybe someone could do the initial work and teach one of your more regular volunteers to keep it up.

I hope I can figure something out. Thanks for your input!
