so, i went to the rabbit rescue in michigan over the weekend and picked up julia.  when i can figure out how to post pics i will put some on here. she is a black bunny with big ears. she is about 8 lbs and 7 or 8 months old. she was spayed about 2 months ago. she was listed as an amercian bunny, but they basically told me that they say american when they arent really sure.

they recued her when she was about 7 weeks old. a family got evicted and let their rabbits go and left their other pets in their house.  a woman found a baby bunny outside and called the rescue. when they got there they found 2 females with over a dozen babies living in a collapsed barn.  julia and her mom have uppity ears but all 7 of her brothers are lops.  she was also the only black one. the others were harlequin along with her mom.

i was going to get 2 females and im so glad i only got julia. seems it will be a pretty good challenge to get her bonded with my boys. its just so hard to walk into a shelter and only take home one bunny.  i wanted all of them!!!

she had a pretty rough time while we were traveling to get her back here.  she wasnt eating pooping or peeing. she didnt drink any water at all. she was not into the car ride or being in a different place other than the shelter.  now that she is home she is doing great.  i was so worried that we would be rushing into a vet out of state for stasis.  finally we are home with no trips to the vet.

        i love her so much!!

Kim, i would let Julia calm down some more before having her meet the boys. Sounds like she needs it. I posted earlier that stress bonding would be good, but not if Julia is just recovering from stress! Wait until at least after the weekend before doing anymore meetings between her and jack or Charlie. In the menatime, don’t let her make your place hers.. keep her in her enclosure.

ok thanks petzy. should i move her cage to a different part of the house? right now she is in the dining room accross from the boys. i can put her in a different room. the only thing is that the other rooms dont have anybody going into them so she wouldnt be used to the kids or any noise.

I would leave the cage where it is but put a visual barrier up, a piece of cardboard. It is important you bond with Julia so that you get to know her. this will help you later.

oh, does anyone want to try and tell me what kind of breed she might be? i also want to add that it does look like she has some brown, maybe harlequin colors in her but its just the lighting. she is all black and has a little bit of gray on the bottom of her paws. she also has a few stray white hairs here and there.

She’s probably going to be a big bun.

I would’ve guessed black New Zealand, but you said her mom was a harliquin and her siblings were lop eared … so I’m not sure. She definitely looks like some mix of meat breeds like NZ, flemmie and others. And then there must be some minilop or maybe french lop in there since the other babies had loppy ears.

She’s a cutie! I’ve love to have a bun just like her.
