So I’m going home on Thursday so I put in notice at my (much hated) job to leave tomorrow but today I couldn’t stand it there any longer. I’ve not had any training at all on the various computer programs used, and while I pick up computer stuff very easily, it’s still easy for me to make mistakes without realising it. If the person I was working with would actually train me, it might be ok, but instead she just seems to wait for me to do something wrong to pounce on me and tell me off.

It’s the way she speaks to me that I just can’t stand! I try to explain what I’ve done so that it’s easier to undo but she just keeps berating me and complaining about how much work it’ll be to fix it all.

Grr, I just get so annoyed because I applied fo a basic admin role while my dad was recovering and instead they threw me into a different role, which I hate and didn’t want, and then guilted me into staying, while treating me like $*&!.

*deep breaths* I wish I could staple things to her head…but I accept that I can’t.

I can’t wait to be home in Canberra!

I don’t think I would be able to handle that either.
Where do these people get their “management” skills? Why do they think this is a productive way to work?

Just think about getting to see your little bundles of fur – very soon!!!

I AM SO SORRY YOU HAD TO GO THRU THAT!  IT SO SUCKS.

Been there myself at certain jobs.  Sometimes I feel there’s a “target” on my forehead that people just  aim at.  Never really figured it out, but I tell u…. it’s good that u took yourself out of that “unhealthy” environment.  Now go cuddle your little one/s.  Thats what really  matters in this sometimes crazy world.

                one more thing.  You said…

                >> If the person I was working with would actually train me, it might be ok, but instead she just seems to wait for me to do something wrong

Yeah, theres this weird dynamic with some co-workers at  jobs.  They “intensionaly” will not help u in order to secure THEIR OWN job security.  its sickening, I know.  Unfortunately, its quite common….. it comes down to ‘either sink or swim’.   Sorry again for your experience.

Well I called HR and had a big chat to them about it, and they’re sending someone from another city to have a ‘talk’ with the people involved. Apparently it’s happened a lot, so they can’t retain staff. Another girl walked out yesterday as well. Hopefully something positive comes out of it so that someone else doesn’t go through it.

It’s really good that you stood up for yourself and called them. I went through a harassment case with a girl that was higher than me at work – it was the same thing. She never helped or pointed out good things, just waiting to pounce on those mistakes. I wrote up a 3 page letter of how she made me feel and how it affected everyone at work. I told this letter was confidential and it was left out and she read it. I still had to work with her and it was very uncomfortable. Can we say lawsuit? Anyways, she was transferred and then fired a few months after. The assistant manager that left my letter out didn’t even say sorry to me for leaving it out. Anyways…I completely feel your pain. Some people are so hard to work with I swear. But don’t worry it will come back to them I promise you that!

I’m very glad you spoke to HR. Often a bad employee is responsible for a high turnover due to people quitting but not interested in saying why. When you involve HR as you exit, it doesn’t change your plans or jeopardize your job, but brings a chronic problem to light to be dealt with. I’ve known many excellent workers who were the victims of bad ones, and the wrong person leaves. Good for you for being clear about the issues and what’s really going on.

Oh man, this brings back bad memories for me….. in my case, reporting the toxic behavior from this other employee didn’t change a thing.  Becuz of her, there was a high turnover rate in my position, but  nothing was ever done about her.  She  was there for 14 years. Word has it that everyone was ‘afraid of her” as to why this negative situation lived on.  As RabbitPam said,  “I” was one of those victims of the bad ones. I left.  I’m sure she’s still there.

Makes me glad I don’t have to work… when I get a job I won’t have to worry, as it will just be something for me to do besides hang out at home, and not something I HAVE to do. I’ll be able to tell those nasty people exactly what I think lol.
