I am a fan of the House Rabbit Society on Facebook, and they posted this AWESOME list. I think this is a quick, easy to use little guide, with a cute bunny image too! I have been feeding too much from the “one” list, and not enough from the “two” list, and I think that is were I am getting into trouble with gas/stasis with my bunny Eclipse, especially as I am feeding more kale, mustard greens, and romaine than is really needed.

Oh that’s cool!! Thanks for posting that. ::bookmarks::

Remy and Momo get their daily plate of bok choy, carrot, broccoli, and celery, and when I’m feeling extravagant they get arugula, cilantro and parsley on the side. So far no pooping problems (knock on wood!).

Kyt, it looks like Kale is on the 1-3 times a week asterisk list. My friend Mindy says her bunnies adore Kale too. I’ve never offered them to my buns, but I may try now that I hear they love it!

Oh my gosh, thanks for posting that! 0_0 No wonder Mimzy had trouble last week. He was getting two helpings of romaine daily because I thought he wasn’t getting enough water! >_< My poor little guy!
Too bad, ALL his fave greens are on the 1-a-day list. This will not make him happy…no, no.
And yes, calcium is a nasty gas producer…have you ever had to take the tablets? Those mess me up, but when you’re my age you have to watch out for brittle bones.
I wonder if bunnies ever have trouble with osteoporosis? I would guess not.

Oh my gosh Mimz, I know exactly what you mean! I actually have to take preventative measures against osteoporosis now, at my young age of 19, because the thyroid meds I am on will reduce my bone density over time and I will be on those thyroid meds for the rest of my life (pending new technologies! lol).

And yes, this really does clear up the stasis issues I was having with Eclipse. I have no doubt now that the romaine, kale, and collards she was getting that week completely gassed her out.

Ah yes, I’ve heard that about thyroid medications. That’s got to be rough.

I would never have thought that Romaine would be a gassy veggie. I know the carrot tops can be bad, because they cause Mimzy to leave a white powder in his litter box. Even a little bit will cause him to have problems, but it’s his very favorite.

Binky Bunny consulted with HRS on this list about a month ago because there was some confusion on the way it’s read. She posted about it in this thread. https://www.binkybunny.com/FORUM/tabid/54/a…fault.aspx

The “One” column is at least one of these per day for the vit A content.  Watching out for the gassy veggies if these cause issues for your rabbits.  Of course, the list is a guideline, so it really comes down to what works and what doesn’t for the individual bunny.

My local HRS is selling really cute reusable grocery bags right now. It’s got a baby bunny in a pile of veggies and “Bunny’s shopping list” with a few suitable greens… I’ll have to take a picture of them… possibly get some from you guys :]

Thank you Jerseygirl. That does clarify it. I do think that the collards and/or kale are still a little rough on Eclipse, though as I said in my other post, Nova is a little plant garbage disposal and can eat anything. Romaine did surprise me, but I won’t limit that one. It is the easiest for me to find, and because so many other animals that my mom has eat it, there is always some laying around the house. Plus it is great for that vitamin A thing. As long as it doesn’t make her gassy… I think putting turnip greens as my main vegetable will help. What about bok choy? Maybe I need to try to make a list of ‘gassy’ vegetables. I though radish tops weren’t good either… I just need to keep trying new things, though I will be avoiding the ones high in calcium.

I saw those Rachel! So tempting… If only I hadn’t been spending way too much money on lolcat shirts…

I can say from experience that both bok choy and baby bok choy are wonderful and the buns go BANANAS for them!

I frequently shift around which veggies my bunny gets to keep things interesting. Right now he’s getting broccoli, arugula, green leaf lettuce, parsley and spinach in his diet. That’s a cute list – I love the bunny picture!
