Haven’t been on here awhile, but I have a Dutch/Lionhead baby named Thumper.  The only way I knew she was half Lionhead was because she had a little skirt and a teensy bit of fur on her cheeks.

I’ve had her for a little over a year now, and she’s managed to grow a crazy looking mane!  It’s not really an even mane, but the hair on it is pretty long.  After doing research on Lionheads, I had always assumed she would have the most fur when she was young and then lose it as she got older.  Was not expecting this.  Weird thing, though, is that her skirt hair is only half as long as it used to be.  Also, one side of her cheek hair started getting choppy (or one of my parents lied about sneaking in and trying to snip off some cheek hair).

Anyone else have crazy mane stories?

That’s really cool! I’ve also heard that single maned lionheads tend to lose their manes after the first molt, not grow them in. Very cool! She’s adorable 🙂

Maybe she’ll lose it again, then grow it in again, then lose it again …. haha.

Every once in a while you get an odd-looking bunny that is just priceless. This is it. Yours is the bomb. I love that mix yours is. I will save those pictures you posted.

My angora mix has a story of losing some of his wool. He is half giant angora and half holland lop. Like lionheads, he molted off his wool from his body after puberty. It was so weird, he went from being fuzzy and grey to being shiny black.

Thanks! =) I’m kinda hoping she keeps it, or grows even more in!

Petzy, your bun is beautiful! I love the shiny black he has now! It looks like the wool was gray and he had black underneath. Thumper’s wool is a gray color too, even though her fur is chestnut agouti.

Oh wow! I like her new look! I’m wondering it they can sort of shorten one side of the check fur if it rubs on the body when they’re grooming themselves?
Is she still doing that “talking to the ceiling” thing?

Maybe? It would be hard to shorten the hair on her cheeks, though, since she only really has access to them using her paws. Therefore, I think it’s highly unlikely… perhaps some of it is starting to come out. Sometimes when I’m petting her, I’ll see a clump of dirt and when I get it out some mane comes out with it.

She only “talks to the ceiling” when she’s doing a full-body grooming, so I figure it’s just her clearing hair out from between her teeth. Haven’t seen her do it much lately, it happens moreso when she’s shedding. Glad to see you remembered! =)

Petzy, that color change is amazing!

Thumper reminds me a bit of Larry Hagman’s eyebrows, only much, much cuter.

Oh your buns are very pretty.   I love the gray outter hair.

Cotton is also part dutch/lionhead.   He did the opposite.  When I first saw him he had a huge full mane.  It shed out  never to be seen again.  He has some behind his ears tho. And a skirt.  He has a really fuzzy face now too

My little Laith he was a single mane.  All he had as a baby was this cute long hair between his ears that would curl forward.

After it all shed out he got this huge huge mane around his head he looked like a little sunflower  with a face in the middle.  No long hair on his face at all just behind his head.

I am going to have to find those pictures of Laith.  I dont’ think I ever got a pic of his adult mane tho.  Or Cottons big mane when he was young.

OH that picture of Laith as a baby is in the support section

How cute! Karl is growing more and more as well. He is just a single mane lionhead. He didn’t have that much when we got him, but when he turned about 9 months old we re-named him to Captain or Sailor because of the “beard”.

Also, he is starting to grow long hair on his back – and his mane is just getting longer and longer. I cut it a few months back, because it seemed to annoy him. But now it is longer than it has ever been
