Ok I found out about this guy who is up for adoption

        http://mail.lortsmith.com/StrayReg/images/w1772.jpg

His time is up and if no home can be found for him then it will be bye bye rabbits

So against my better judgement I rang them and have set up a bunny date for my two guys and him tomorrow to see if they all get along.  I spoke to the rabbit lady and she said as he is desexed and Bugz is desexed but Anya is not then we may do a hour long session and see how they go.  Anya is not agressive now since Bugz told her who is boss so we have to go from there.  They did say that he is LARGE which makes me think (and the ears make me think) that he has some flemish in him which also scares me as Bugz is SOOOOO small.

Will keep you updated but oh I know I should not but how can you say no??????

The picture is taking forever to load on my PC, but I can see the ears so far…lol.
Somehow I’m reminded of the picture of the bunnies at Save-A-Bunny who were the bonded Flemish female and the Nethie Male with the caption about sneaking him into the movies in one of her ears. ^_^

*sigh* I don’t know, AV. I don’t think I could stop myself if such a deadline where impending, no matter what size the bunny. But I’m pretty sure the extremely large and extremely small can learn to get along.

Thanks MimzMum I did ask if he was Flemish size and was told “Oh no he is not that big but he is rather big” It seems he has been adopted out a few times and comes back due to other rabbits not liking him. His partner in crime (who came into the shelter with him) had a broken back and had to be put down so he is use to other rabbits and he is the colour I like and oh crap who knows what will happen tomorrow, even if I take him for the $40 adoption fee and keep him and try and work out somewhere else for him to live if push comes to shove, oh my parents are going to kill me!

jerseygirl – they say they are a no kill shelter however once aniamls have been there x amount of time they are put into pounds and then the pounds are kill shelters so they don’t put them down but they place them in places that are known to put them down which is why I want to get to him before he gets lost in the system if that makes sense he is due to be put into a pound at the end of the week so since I have tomorrow off and they are open figure what the hell will go and see what I can do for him!

I’d be horrible too. My hubby had to come with me to the rabbit meeting today so I wouldn’t be tempted to bring them all home with me. Meanie.

Since you asked, I will be the mean devil’s advocate since you did say stop me. Plus I am having ‘puter trouble so don’t have time to open the pix, and am writing safely avoiding any cuteness.
Take some time to do a list of pros and cons. Pros we know about. Rescue, cuteness, rabbit fever.
Cons: write down how it will impact your budget.
How will you change your space to accommodate him?
How will you proceed with bonding?
Do you have the patience to bond both bunnies with him, or to deal with the impact the addition of a third will have on your current bonding work?
What will you do if two out of 3 hate each other?
Can you house all three separately if necessary?
What happens if you have an emergency and you need to evacuate all 3 to go somewhere else? (Like a hurricane)
What if you need to take a trip, or want to, can you get a bunny sitter for 3 as easily as 2?
                                    Do you have pet insurance?
Are you prepared to have vet care for all 3?
What if he has a chronic condition you don’t know about until after you take him? What next?

I really can’t think of anything else. And frankly, you probably won’t have any overwhelmingly negative answers to any of those to keep you from getting him if you really want him and think it’s a good idea. Trying not to say “go for it here” but give you a list of suggestions to think through why you may stop yourself.
                                    Good luck in your decision.
Try saving your photo, resize it to a smaller jpg, and post again.

You should know us better by now!    I’m no good to you, I’ve been eyeing off a bonded trio lately….not gonna happen though.

With that flemish you were going to take recently, weren’t you taking it as a foster and finding it a home? Could you do that with this bunny if you don’t feel you can give it a permanent home?  There you go. Not exactly talking you out of it, but throwing some options out there.

Well that was an epic fail. They did not have a room really set up to do the intros in. So i spent 20 mins clearing cords from an office before i would let my guys out. They then bring him in and he is HUGE, yeah he has some Flemish in him somwhere! he is 4 to 5 times the size of Anya and she is bigger then bugz now so a little worried. We intro him to bugz and well that did not go down so well but they where sort of ok with each other. I then let Anya out and first thing he does is start humping her which I try and stop and the lady says “Oh he was only desexed over the weekend so hormones are still in play” at which point Anya gets removed from the floor as she is NOT spayed and they KNEW this and they kept telling me that there was nothing to worry about (I did ring my vet and she said that’s from what I discribe it is unlikey that he managed anything) I did think about taking her to get spayed tomorrow but the vet wants to wait another month due to her size and really i would not let him hump her he might have gotten one thrust in but that would be it so we are going to take our chances.

At the end of the day he is just to big and I would have to keep them seperate for at least another 6 weeks and then Anya would get spayed and then they would be split up again and what this means is 12 weeks of having bunnies in sperate cages and that is just not going to work for me. I have notified another group that I know and they are going to see if they can take him or find a foster home for him but the size worried me no end and the splitting them up and the risk to Anya and yeah so fail.

he was a nice bunny and he did match Bugz in colours perfect but i guess it was just not suppose to be.

Well good for you for doing what you can for him.

on the humping!! Hope you gave them the heads-up on 4 week post neuter period.  Fingers crossed for Anya.  What a worry!

So he’s been adopted out a few time and he wasn’t fixed?  No wonder he came back.  I’m actually suss he was even neutered at all…would they let him out to meet other rabbits so soon after an op?

Whoa…letting a newly neutered bun out to meet an unaltered female bunny…NOT cool. >_<
I think they owe you a free spay if she comes up pregnant. I hope she’s not either, but it might be worth a mention.

I did say that if I have to go through a preggers bunny then they have to spay/nuter all the bubs for me they where not happy but neither was I. As i was leaving there was another lady there who was looking for a single indoor bunny for her daughter who is in her teens so i hope they look at him the other rabbits they have in are smaller all female and not as friendly.

This place is great for cats and dogs but rabbits should not be there they should go to other shelters I know that are set up for this type of thing.

I think I would ask the vet if you can get Anya spayed a bit sooner than in 4 weeks, like 2 or 3. Just in case.

You were nice to meet this big guy just the same. Wishing him a good new home soon.
