My daughter got some sea monkeys for her 6th birthday last week, and was highly excited about watching them “hatch instantly” as it says on the label. so we followed the instructions very carefully….

We purified the water with the sachet they included, and waited 24 hours with the water temperature at 26 degrees celcius.

After 24 hours (last night) we added the eggs. The label says they will hatch before your eyes. It just looked like talcum powder with one little yellow ball thing in it that was about 1mm in diameter, and some blue dye.

We watched for AGES, and the powder dissolved, and the yellow seedy thing fell to the bottom of the aquarium, and thats it

We left it over night and went to look again this morning, and nothing.

It just looks like a jar of water.

Has anyone else had sea monkeys? Are they meant to magically hatch before your eyes?

        what are we doing wrong?!

I think my hubby has had sea monkeys before.. ill ask him.

He says it could take a couple days, and they could be veeeery tiny to start with.

yeah, i had them one time and i thought they were all dead because the package i had also said “watch them hatch instantly!”

thankfully, i waited a few days just to see if anything would happen, and sure enough, they finally hatched. this was probably 15 years ago so i have no clue on the exact time frame. just give it a week and if nothing happens, then i i guess they were defective or something..

Sea Monkeys are a type of brine shrimp. I have never had sea monkeys but I have hatched other brine shrimp for my baby fish to eat before.
They are quite tiny and there was no instant hatching. It took about 1-2 days for them to “hatch” and they are so tiny that it takes a few more days for them to be more visible. I would just wait awhile for them to grow.

So you just have it in a cup of water? No bubbler? I used an air pump for mine. I think it helps.
