I feel so bad for my little fuzzballs, particularly Calypso. I had my gallbladder removed last week, and have been pretty much stuck in bed ever since. It is excrutiating to stand up and walk around, so I stay in bed, which is relatively painless. My boyfriend has been tending to the buns, which impresses Calypso not a bit. (He’s definitely a huge mama’s boy.)

Poor Calypso is just baffled as to why I won’t reach down to rub his head or let him jump on me. He seems really sad that his mom won’t play with him. Poor guy. Echo thinks I’m the devil, so she really couldn’t care less that I’m not paying any attention to her, but Calypso is obviously taking it hard. He has pretty much forgotten that his entire cage is not a big litter box, and has taken to chewing on the baseboards – something he hasn’t done since he was neutered.

What can I do to help my poor little stressed out bunny??

PS   Has anybody here had a laparoscopic cholecystectomy (gallbladder removal)?? The pain I’m experiencing when I stand up is horrible!! It feels like it’s tearing and pulling at my insides. Ouch! I called the doc, and he said that it was normal and would likely continue for a few more days. This surprises me because, before the surgery, everybody assured me that I’d be as good as new in a week, tops! It will be a week tomorrow evening, and I can still hardly stand up straight most of the time. When I move around, the pain is so bad that I have to clutch at my stomach and gasp until I’m able to sit down again! If anybody has been through this surgery, please let me know what your experience was like.

Lara… you need more Calypso fur to feel better… you’re just not getting enough whisker tickle kisses. {{{{ get well vibes }}}}} I second the motion… Calypso should come and visit you in bed, be sure to cover your tummy with a thick blanket – just in case. But it does sound like you both need some bonding time with a bit of carrot!

I hope you feel better soon! Maybe your boyfriend can bring Calypso to you while you are in bed? I would call your doctor again and insist on getting a follow up appt. My dad had that operation a few years ago and he was back to normal activities in less than a week, so I would call again. Take care of yourself

Thanks everybody for the wishes. I just got back from the emergency room after speaking with a tele-care nurse. I’m back to the hospital tomorrow at eight am for an ultrasound. The er doc thinks that I might have an incisional hernia. Fun times. As for Calypso, he won’t stay in bed with me… the bed is his racetrack. lol. I might be able to snuggle up with him on the couch, but not right now because I need sleep… 6 hours of waiting at the er!! Wish me luck for tomorrow!

Tell your doc you need BETTER pain meds. It could be normal but no need to suffer

*HUGS* to you and your bf (for looking after bunnies)

Firstly, (((((healing vibes))))) to you. Secondly, stop feeling bad for them. I’m sure your bunbabies will do fine. Feeling guilty is not going to heal you faster. Sure they like their routine and most of it is probably the same, just with less of you. Calypso probably can sense you’re not 100% – they know.
Incisional hernia? Wasn’t it a week ago you feared that for Echo? Well I hope it turns out to be nothing as it did for her. Stay positive.  It must be the nurse in you wanting to tend to others when you need to convalesce yourself!

My next door neighbor just had her gallbladder removed last week and I hear that it is very painful so I hope you feel better soon. I think your bunny is stressed out because he knows that you don’t feel well, rather than him wondering what is happening on why you are not able to pay as much attention. I am sure that he senses that you are having pain and he is concerned.
