Ok so I have kind of bad allergies towards Loki. Didnt really know I was going to be this bad till we got her and I was holding her and such. I brushed her with the furminator yesterday and it cut down on hair some, I am sure I could brush her a little bit more with it, just didnt want to bother her too much with it at first. We vacuum her hair up every day and I clean all the hair out of her cage morning and night. Just wondering if there is anything else I can do to help my allergies? I mean the allergies arnt going to make me get rid of her or anything, I love her and she is def staying no matter what, lol. But less sneezing and itcy eyes and such would be a plus!

Are you taking anything for your allergies? I find Claritin to be quite effective, but since I have to take it every day year-round I buy the generic stuff from Costco which is much, much cheaper.

First, see if your allergies are hay or bunny. A lot of people are actually more allergic to the hay and taking precautions like wearing gloves and a facemask might help a lot.

I also want to throw out allergy shots. They’re fantastic! A lot of people seem to have needle fears, but really, after dealing with 15 years of allergy and sinus issues, allergy shots are the only thing that have ever helped me. I’m completely allergy medicine free year round now. They take a while to kick in (maybe a year?) but are far far more effective than allergy medicines. Just throwing that out there 😉 I think it’s at least worth seeing an allergy specialist and seeing what medicine and treatment they recommend.

I know how it can be a bummer to be allergic to the pet you love. A couple decades ago, I use to rescue ferrets and raise them. I was so allergic I would get big red hot burning patches wherever they touched my skin to I had to wash my hands and arms constantly and remember not to touch my face. Speaking about using a furminator, yesterday I had Hunny Bunny on her back and used my furminator to trim under her big feet where the fur gets a bit knotted and I brushed all around her tail and butt area. She was so good for me laying still the whole time!

Hahaha, I posted about this a few days ago too! Allergies are the worst. I’ve started using a mask whenever I handle the hay or when I’m cleaning letter boxes and that helps. Claratin really doesn’t do anything for me, unfortunately, and benadryl makes me sleepy, so I’m on the look out for a new antihistiamne/decongestant. I’m also going to go to an allergist and see about getting a nasal spray and doing allergy shots =)

ya ever since claratin went to over the counter it hasnt worked for me. The only thing that really does anything is benadryl and like you said Barbie that makes me sleepy too haha. I will def talk to an allergy specialist. Thank you everyone!

Have you tried claritin-D? Ashlee, Barbies thread on allergies should be about in the lounge pages close by. Lots of tips in there. One of the main ones is about hay. Lots of people are affected by timothy hay but not others such as orchard grass hay.

Try Nasonex…it’s amazing for hay allergies and bedding allergies!
