Today I went to the feed store to buy a bail of timothy hay for my guinea pigs and….there is a cage of the dirtiest baby bunnies I have ever seen. The manager said an old man dropped them off today because he “had too many.” I sat there for an hour playing with all of them in my nice brand new sweater from American Eagle lol gettin bunny tinkles all over me. Oh well! They were all in one of those 60$ instant critter home deals, so it was basically like a 2 foot long cage with 10 baby bunnies in it! It was awful! They were all damp and gross, probably from spilling water in the car since they had a water dish and not bottle. Okay so I didn’t need another rabbit but I …I….I just had to get one. She has the most beauitful blue eyes and I was instantly drawn to her.

She’s still one little hot mess with peepee all over but before I try to clean her up I want her to settle in. I have a 3×2 cube cage for her atm which is decent for now. She will get free range time in the guest room once I proof it for her. In the mean time I am going to spoil her rotten just like Bun! I am also going to need some help on a name again!

Hi, Im a dirty lil baby Please love me!

I’ll post more pictures later when she looks better, poor little girl !!

I’m happy for you, Bun, and most of all little blue-eyed hot mess! Make sure to check her coat for bugs.
You’d been looking to get Bun a friend for a while!

Now you’ve got one ruby-eyed and one blue-eyed. That’s really neat!

Thank you! I gave her a good inspection, and besides being on the skinny side, eating crappy pellets, and having pee all over her coat, she looks alright. She isn’t afraid of me at all, and in fact on the car ride home she jumped out of this 2 foot tall box, and I swiftly picked her up and plunked her on my lap…all while driving ( I know, I know ahhhh!!! ) Car accident in the making. She was very content to just sit on my lap on the 15min car ride home. She is also pretty active right now in her cage exploring. She has a liter box full of timothy hay, and a basket full or orchard. I also gave her a chunk of carrot and some cilantro. Not too much tho of course, don’t need to make her sick. I’m worried about the pellet change alone!

                Look…at…those…EARS! 0_0
What a sweetie! ^_^ Lucky you to find such a grubby little lovebug! I’d say a good name would be…hmmm…Spot? Smudge? (Can’t take my eyes of the beauty mark on her right lip there.)
I don’t thin I’d even notice the pee….what a cute little character! Congrats!

I would name her “Covergirl” for all that mascara.

She could totally be a Marilyn with that mole and eye makeup.

You can really see how gross she is   Do you think I should take a damp towel to her, or let her clean herself?

I’d probably be right in there with a warm damp towel, poor thing. She’ll be happier once she’s clean.

Believe me, at only 10$ I was so tempted to take more than one but being in college and working, I think I can only have two buns right now. There was an all black one with a white stripe down her face and white paw, it was very very tempting. But I have to be fair to myself and Bun too! Precious sounds like a very cute name hmm!

As a basic precaution- you should handle and feed your first bunny AND THEN handle and feed the new little bunny.  You should also have a stool sample checked on her ASAP- it sounds like she was not from ideal conditions and coccidia tends to run rampant in those situations.  Coccidia if caught early is easily treatable and is no big deal.  Your vet should be able to check a sample ASAP- but if she needs meds then they will most likely have to examine her also to be able to prescribe the meds.

When I got Griffin-since he was from a breeder (larger number of rabbits) and had been at the fair grounds- I kept him in separate part of the house for at LEAST 2 weeks and handled him after the other bunnies.  Griffin tested positive for coccidia and was treated and retested negative before he was allowed to be in the same room as the other bunnies- since coccidia can be transmitted thru stool.

Thank you Katnip, I haven’t touched Bun yet at all and have washed my hands since handling the baby. Thank you for such helpful information. I plan on bringing in the little one within the next few weeks to the vet, after she settles down a bit, unless I see signs of her needing to go in prior.

How wonderful – congratulations Lintini. I don’t think it’s a coincidence a new bun has arrived this week btw. My thoughts are you made room for it mentally/emotionally… Or you just plain old got suckered in by the blue eyes! Lol
So I thought Marilyn first too! If she turns out to be a boy (it happens! ) then you could switch it to “Monroe” Also thought “Bridgette” could be a candidate. She’s cute despite the grubbiness. I hope her siblings get good homes also. What are the people at the feed store like? Do they normally have animals there?

The feed store; well my mom has gone to that same one since she was a kid, and people are known to just dump rabbits there. I got my first rabbit from them when I was about 10 years old. They only sell feed and hay and some over the counter horse medicines, lead ropes, halters, etc. They do have baby chicks there sometimes, but none today. So no, they don’t usually sell animals except for baby chickens =/ When I got a rabbit from them years ago the owner gave him to me for free. I think her siblings with find good homes, a lady was there looking at them also as I was leaving, they were very eye catching! Eeep she is grooming her huge ears right now! ugh she is too cute, I am leaning on Marilyn atm, it’s just too fitting! Poor dirty babe Do you guys reckon I should try to clean her off tonight or give her more time to adjust? I just feel bad that she was so cramped in a little cage and so dirty, then the car ride home and a new environment, I don’t want to freak her out.

Personally I’d let her groom herself and let her settle for tonight. It’s such a natural and probably calming thing for them to do. If she doesn’t mind being handled, you could try giving her a brush and even use some cornstarch and brush it thru… Depends if that will have her cleaning herself all over again. Just thinking if she was in with a bunch of others, she might not mind being brushed and petted.

Congrats on the new baby! What a bunch of baby bunny suckers we are on here I’m glad my pet store that sells bunnies at least treats them well and feeds them appropriately/cleans them, etc. I would have dozens if I went into pet stores like some of the ones I hear about on here or happened on a situation like this! I almost took the clearance bunnies home!

It’s a real cutie!! I really like Marilyn or Monroe also, but I also like Cleopatra- it’s all in the eyes! Congrats!

I was a little worried because I hadn’t seen her drinking, but I just filled up a glass water bottle and she went right to it, it’s really funny because my guinea pigs also prefer the glass water bottles to plastic ones. Interesting! Thank you for all the name suggestions too!

I would do the same thing. Her markings around her eyes are so fantastic. I have never seen a bunny with those kinds of markings but, I am rather new to bun buns. Getting her used to being washed is a good idea. When you train them when they are young, they don’t resist when the get older.

I broke down in tears crying and bargained to get rid of my 50 gallon fish tank. The joys of still living at home. My dad just doesn’t understand. I’ve been trying to study websites to tell the difference between males and females and I’m totally stumped. I flipped Bun over to compare, and I was still stumped. I’m working on plumping her up, well I think it’s a her. Is there anything out there that could help in her gaining some weight? I can feel all her ribs

Once you get into the three’s and four’s, yes, it is noticeably more $ and space etc…

My Neigey was so overwhelmed when he got to my house that the first couple of days he just picked at his feed. but not so now!

(when i have kids, that is)

My parents didn’t understand my love for animals and gave me a hard time before every pet I ever owned! Tell them you didn’t do it because you wanted another bun but you felt you had to help an animal in need. Make them feel guilty for giving you a hard time

She’s so beautiful! Can’t wait to see her all cleaned up. I want a bunny that looks like that, with the black eyeliner because I’m a huge ancient egyptian fan and that’s all I can think of when I see them! I would name her something egyptian. Two of my faves are: Arsinoe (pronouced Ar-si-no-ay), she was Cleopatra’s sister or Neferaru who was another princess.

For a cute little girl bunny though, I also love the name Flower.   So simple and cute. And she’s white and black like Thumper’s friend Flower.

Her feeties are still dirty but she has cleaned up her face and body for the most part. Here is a new photo of her I took today, and you can see how pretty her eyes are! My parents I guess are okay with me having her, I just gotta keep everything clean and not make messes lol.

You can check Bun a few times to get the idea of what you are looking for.   Then go check our cover girl cleo bunny/Nile bunny    to compare.    It takes a bit of practice.

Or else wait til 3-4 months and see what grows.   Or doesn’t grow.

I found the website but it won’t let me copy paste dang vista comps.

well I will write it out and later maybe tomorrow go to the other computer and copy paste the page link  I can do it on IE

http://www.rabbitnetwork.org/articles/sexing.shtml     ok there you go they have a place to see the boy and a place to see the girl.

I am a bit more positive it is a boy! Which is good news! HusBUN!

I know how we love talking about poos here…well, he’s still smaller than Bun, and his poos are already bigger! Also…the urine smells different,,,so I had a feeling it could be a boy. Although that could be because Bun doesn’t get alfalfa hay and I am just over calculating things.

It really looks like a boy to me, but I really could be wrong, so don’t go by what I say. Don’t forget that s/he will stink more because s/he has not been on your good food diet for very long. That makes a HUGE difference. Yes, boys are stinkier little buggers, but as no stuff has dropped I doubt that he would be making stinky male smells yet (unless he was older and he just hadn’t dropped, but he looks too young to be older).
