She’s home!  Boy did it take forever too.  First we got hit on the way there (no damage), and then we got lost and that city is bigger then youd think! But 6 hours after leaving and we are finally home.  She seems sweet so far, scared though.  And yep, she is a thumper too like Rose was.  Her foster sent home a box that Mae loves so its in her pen and she is pretty much staying in there, I guess it makes her feel safe.  But she nibbled on her (formally Lucys and Hammers, shh, dont tell) grass mat, and sniffed out everything. No eating or drinking or pooing or peeing yet.  But on the major plus side there was no reaction from any of the three regarding eachother yet.   Anyways, I loved her already, but now that Ive met her she is even better!

The new bunny abode.  Hammer and Lucy left.  Mae right, and her box is in the empty corner now.

        Check out the killer disapproval!

Yay! Welcome home Mae!  Liz, I am blinking away. She is so Rose…yet she isn’t, she’s different. Do you get what I mean? lol

Glad you got home safe and sound in the end.  How on earth did you get that aerial shot?

Lol yea I get it! She looks so much like Rose, yet I cant put my hand on why I can still tell them apart. I cant figure out any features that are different..

Hey guys so far so good!  Mae ate last night and some of her salad this morning.  She is on a different feeding shedule now so  it might take her a few days to get used to it.  But she is having no problems pooping lol.  Only a few make it in the box.  But she ate a bunch of hay and I saw one tiny head flick, so thats an awesome sign.  Hammer and Lucy were doing fine before I went to bed, but this morning there were Hammer fur clumps on the floor.  So Lucy got humpy and they had a tiff is what more then likely happened.  Surprisingly no territorial poos from Hammer and Lucy, yet.  Mae still hasnt explored all of her cage, she has a shelf that she hasnt been on yet.  Last night I let hammer and Lucy out and Mae ran to check out Lucy.  Someone grunted some fighting word, but I couldnt tell who because I soon as I heard it they got shooed back into their cage for the night.  Now I have a barrier up around Hammer and Lucys so Mae can come out and explore but she still hasnt come out yet.  Which I understand I guess, her pen is safe and the rest is unknown.  And now as I type this she is hopping on out of her pen.  Lol yay.   Now she keeps going in and out, check out something really fast then making sure her pen is still open.   And another head flick!  Yay for happy bunnys!

She’s beautiful. Congratulations. I imagine she’s in sensory overload right now and kind of confused. Hopefully once she feels comfortable she will start using her litter box – it may just be the terror factor and she is pooping where she is at.

Sounds like you had quite the adventure on your way to picking her up – glad you didn’t get frustrated and just head home (not that I think you ever would have until you accomplished your mission of adopting Mae).

Um well, I live in a space smaller then there space.  My twin bed, dresser and desk lol.  They have their space plus a maze haven, big diggy box, big cardboard tent, two big stacking storage things.  Geez, I need a bunny room!  Im thinking of getting one of those bunk beds where there isnt anything underneath.  I would hate sleeping up there, but I could put my desk under it and then Mae’s cage could be bigger.

Have you considered doing vertical condos? Maybe 2 by 3 grids and then 3 or 4 stories. I think you should look into it, it would be your best bet for space.

I have thought about it, but I change my mind every time I see Hammer or Lucy zoom and binky in there pen. I think it would give more square footage but maybe not of equal quality. And im not sure Mae would do well in a condo (I considered it for her) 1. because she panics blindly Im not sure levels would be her thing. 2. because I cant pick her up unless its 200% needed and her in a condo would need more picking up and less coaxing.

Side note- she is so NOT ready to be pet yet! She lets me give her treats, but I tried to pet her and she freaked out real bad. Scared me! But I impressed myself and stayed relatively calm and she chilled and toke another treat.

Another option might be two vertical condos side by side but with an alternating attached pen. Ham and Luce get it 24 hours, Mae 24 hours and they rotate every day. Just a thought…

Im hoping Mae will be free roam (minus the two days im at school, and a few hours a day while Ham and Luce are out). So if she is then her cage isnt a problem. Its 3×4 grids so technically its okay, I just always want them to have more space. Her bio says she would be a good free roamer.

Is there any way (in time) she could be a free-roamer somewhere else in the house, or no b/c of the other pets?

I seriously doubt it. The cats wouldnt be a big deal, unless Mae decides she is afraid of them (never been around cats before). But the dogs would be an issue. Im working on making the upsatirs (my room, hall, bath, moms room) a bunny zone and the downstairs a dog zone but my mom hasnt been to sure about that in the past. Maybe ill present this idea again tonight. While im home it could be dogs down and buns up, at night the dogs could come up and buns to the pens. When im gone all animals in pens. It could get complicated lol.

And my mom would be tough to let me bun proof her room. But ill work on that. If I push hard enough it could work lol. Maybe just not this month because she did already cave and let me get Mae.

She is absolutely beautiful! What a wonderful space you have for her. Loft beds aren’t so bad either. I actually love them. My husband and I had one in our Smaller San Francisco Apartment (our office was underneath). But our ceilings were very high, so we had plenty of room up above to sit up and read in the loft bed. In the place we are at now, our nose would be at the ceiling so that wouldn’t work.

I would love to put your set up in the Cool habitats section, if you want. If so, send the photos in a larger size to jenniferATBinkyBunnyDOTcom

I bet Mae will settle in soon enough. Vivian took a little time to get used to having so much space. I know she got running time at the shelter and lots of love from the founder and her husband as they took a shining to her, but it’s one thing to live with so much space, so it took her time to feel comfortable with it.

Another problem with a loft bed would be hanging out with the buns, id have to sit on the floor or buy a nice comfy chair.

I mentioned the upstairs being a mainly bun only zone and she said maybe, we can talk later about it. So its a yes basically.

Well Hammer and Lucy are seperated!  I heard them fighting and came running to find them caught in a tumbling fight match.  Hammer lost a chunk of fur the size of a half dollar with a bite, and many other small clumps.  Lucy lost a tiny amount of fur, but really almost none.  Ill put them together tomorrow when I can watch them, but for now Lucy gets to sit in her half of the pen while I give Hammer some extra attention.

Beka, yea my mom does like the rabbits most of the time.  But yesterday the IHRS chapter manager showed us all her rabbits and my mom fell head over heels for a flemmie who just so happened to be free roam.  So that had something to do with it.

I remember you Amanda, welcome to the forums!

That worries me. When we brought a 3rd bunny into our house, it caused Max and Mead to break into a vicious (biting, circling, chasing, growling) fight… without them even SEEING the other bun. Fortunately the other bun (our friend’s) was just visiting for the afternoon and as soon as he left… all returned to normal. I hope this is just a little unrelated tiff and not due to another bun being in the house.

It is because of Mae, no doubt. Its there third fight since she has been here but the other two weren’t that big a deal. But after I settled Hammer down I let them both out for run time. All was well until Hammer and Mae were sniffing each other at the barrier and Lucy just had to jump in and hump, which was immediately a no-no for Hammer. I think they will be okay though, might take a few weeks and some stressful bonding situations but I think they will get over it. When they were separated last night they were both annoyed with the barrier between them and ended up sending most of he night flopped together next to the barrier.

Mae is doing well! She doesnt hesitate as much now with taking things from me, I hand feed some of her salad and treats and hay. I think she will be a shy bun anyway, just trusting me. Some family came over for dinner last night and she wouldnt even greet them or take treats from them, they wanted to pet her but I wouldnt let them and I think Mae was grateful. So they dont really like her lol, she is boring for them. I tried to explain she was abused and still remembers it but they didnt think it should matter. Oh well, none of them will ever be bun sitters. She is very loudly chewing her cardboard box right now and its very annoying, turn up the ipod a little! She did let me pet her forehead last night, she freaked out a little after a minute but didnt spaz and run like crazy as before. Todays goal is the forehead and face. If it happens ill try her back tomorrow. But she is settling in, hopping around more freely and eating more regularly, dug at her blankets this morning.

She keeps stinky pooing RIGHT in front of Hammer and Lucy’s pen. And I mean tons of poo! Thats probably why Lucy keeps getting humping, because Mae keeps marking. She peed in one spot a few times before I caught her and sprayed some perfume there (shh, dont tell my mom!). And now its pooing! I saw Hammer and Lucy starting a fight and yelled at both of them, lol “STOP! This is crazy and immature and Ive never been so disappointed in the two of you! Now love each other like grown ups and move on or go to your opposite corners while I get you some chill pills!” Lol they toke my advice and laid down right then and there together. Good buns. Though they do like “chill pills”, thats what I call papaya tablets with a drop of rescue remedy.
