I check the IHRS site every now and then to see which rabbits are adopted out and meet the new furry faces. Its a bad habit probably, but Ive never gone looking for a third rabbit, just curious. They updated profiles and changed the pics so I reread all the bios and stared at all the new pictures. Anyways this is her. http://www.indianahrs.org/adoption-details.aspx I burst into tears halfway through the first sentence because it matches Rose’s bio word for word on the first paragraph, so this is Rose’s sister. For those who are kind of new Rose was a bunny I lost, see the siggy. I was crying so hard that I couldnt even finish reading the whole thing at first and had to dig through my files and find Rose’s bio I have printed out to clarify everything. I know it sounds crazy to a lot of non bunny people because they dont understand how much we do love our bunnies. But its like KatNip (now im thinking its not her, ill find out) says about when you find a bunny it clicks and its right wether you wanted another or not, to not go looking and they will find you. I know its not Rose and she will not be the same nor will she make me feel better about Rose’s death, but I feel like she is family and that I love her already because she came from the same horrible past that Rose did. They were starved and abused and dumped, sick when they got to IHRS. I found her last night and I cant stop thinking about her. I had the most horrible dream (im good for these horrible bunny dreams huh) that she died in her foster home in a cage and there were so many bunnies there that nobody cried for her, they just dumped her in a can. I know thats crazy and wouldn’t happen, but.. it still got to me. Advice? I feel like she should be mine.
Is this where you adopted Rose from? If so, then it’s certainly possible she’s part of this group.
I do love the New Zealand rabbits and I know that they are a challenge to find good homes for but I guess I would ask myself can I really afford another rabbit – money wise and emotion wise. Will you try and bond her with your current pair? If you do and it doesn’t work out are you willing to keep her separately…probably all the questions you are already asking yourself.
I doubt that she is going to die from neglect in her foster home so please don’t worry about that. I also know she is probably not going to share all the characteristics that sweet Rose had…not that Mae won’t be sweet.
Wow… that’s amazing. How long ago did you lose Rose? (She’s a beautiful bunny, by the way.) And Mae is lovely, too. I’m absolutely speechless, except to say that it certainly sounds like you’re meant to take in Mae like you were meant to take in Rose. That would be a beautiful tribute to Rose… to give her sister a safe, loving home where she could thrive. Oh, God, I think I’m going to cry, too! I’ve got my fingers crossed for you and for Mae.
Sarita- Its is absolutely her sister. The first paragraph is the same for both Rose and Mae, this is where I got Rose, and their ages match up perfectly. And of course they look the same. Yes I think I can afford another rabbit, and she will be getting a VPI plan asap if I get her. And since college is going terrific (at least a 4.0 now) and I only go twice a week I have the time for her. Im not sure about bonding them to a trio, I thought Id wait and see what happened. If I did I would give it several months before trying because Mae sounds gentle and I would want her to be comfortable with everything before I tried a trio. But if I think eveyone would be better left as is then no I wouldnt bond them. And yes Im prepared to keep her apart from my pair. I decided I could do all of this and make it work whatever happened as soon as I decided she should me mine. Yea I know it was a crazy dream, everyone loves their buns no matter how many they have.
Lara- Rose passed in March of this year, from what they think was a upper resp. infection. Thank you, I didn’t think that REW buns were cute until I had Rose actually. And dont cry, Ive done enough lol.
Let us know what happens and congratulations on your 4.0.
I think that if you have the time and money to help another rabbit who needs a home, then go for it. Sometimes things are meant to be and if you feel that way and are prepared to give another rabbit a forever home, it would be a great idea to help the sister of the bunny you loved so much.
oh goodness!! If your heart and your brain are both telling you to adopt Mae than go for it!! I mean, we all know that our hearts can be deceiving but if your logic and brain agrees then it sounds perfect! keep us updated.
OMG!! I know I am a bad influence *disclaimer*
BUT get her get her!! OOHHH I’m excited for you!!!
I submitted the adoption application!!!!!
OHMYGOD! Im so excited. I can’t wait to get her, I would go tomorrow but I know it wont be that soon.
I hope it all works out! She is so adorable!
Thank you!
YAY! Hope you get her

YAY! Hope you get her
Ditto
=D I think she’s as good as yours. Congrats! But don’t worry about her being in the foster home… they’re bunny people, they care about her =)
Please keep us updated. I love that you are considering a REW and an older rabbit. You are a sweetheart to want this beautiful rabbit and also a tribute to your gorgeous Rose.
Aww Sarita you made me cry! Thank you. Im just doing what my heart told me! Literally as soon as I connected who she was I was in love, I want to help her for Rose.
REW’s are beautiful. If they were more rare people would swoon over them.
I just figured out what it stood for! I can’t help it, they gross me out =( Too many childhood associations with rats and lab animals. Sigh.
Congrats!! She’s beautiful
sorry for my ignorance..I’m still new in the bunny world what is a rew?
red eyed white
Lol sibley! They grossed me out too. I didnt want Rose, but thats who Hammer picked so I was stuck. But I love them now
oh… but I didn’t mean to be mean — she IS lovely and I hope you get her!!! She actually reminds me a lot of my foster rabbit Todd. Especially the way she flops! I miss him =(
ha no offense taken dont worry. I didnt think you meant it to hurt or anything, BB people arent mean
Liz-I was up last night thinking about this!!! You have to let us know the minute you know!! *HUGS* My ifngers are crossed and I told the buns to cross their ears
I agree to know a Red-eyed white rabbit is to love them. I do know they have many sad associations but I also know that those of us who have known and loved them (and I’ve had many) come to associate those beautiful red eyes with love – I prefer to call them rose colored…I don’t think they are really red. I know many rabbit lovers who have felt they were not so attractive until they came to know them. I guess beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I guess rabbits are color blind when it comes to love too as is the case of Hammer but I know everyone who has had the luck of ending up being owned by one has never ever regretted it.

Liz-I was up last night thinking about this!!!
Lol me too! I was trying to figure out how to get my mom to say yes. It toke two days of me being annoying but I couldnt go down without a fight haha. But I think I got her to understand. I’ll post the second they call me!

I prefer to call them rose colored…I don’t think they are really red.
Hence the name Rose lol.
I thought REW stood for Ruby-Eyed White.
oooh I didn’t know! I love those buns! I love everybunny lol I didn’t know they associated them with sad things. They are so beautiful. Two days ago I went to Pet Super…ket and I saw they were selling a rew OMG I wanted to take him home! He looked so sad in that little cage I had to contain myself!! O_O
Think about it. If it weren’t for the selective breeding, albino rabbits would be as unique as … an REW moose!
Haha so true!!!
Oh wow Liz! This news is really pulling on the heartstrings. I hope they give her to you! Has she only just come good for adoption? That’s terribly sad… Is the foster carer the same one that had Rose? I’m just thinking when you were trying to get some photos of her. Perhaps the fosterer has some if she’s been involved from the beginning?
Glad to hear college is going well for you also. Smiles all round!
Im not sure Jersey it confuses me. Either 1) Ive never paid any attention to her before and just never noticed who she was. And when they changed pictures on the site she caught me. Or 2) she is just been put up for adoption for some reason or maybe returned. Or maybe they thought she wasnt ready until recently. Idk but I plan to ask. I dont know yet if Mae is with the same foster as Rose was with yet, but I doubt it. Rose’s foster was pretty new to the rabbit thing. But I havent heard anything yet and its killing me lol.
Oh wow! Definitely let us know the second you find out!
REW buns are amazing. They are so often overlooked b/c of appearances but in my opinion they are the perfect bunny. I cannot wait to have one of my own.
She is a beautiful rabbit, BunnyLiz! I hope they speed up your application and you can bring her home asap! It must be meant to be if you found a sibiling of Rose. Good luck and keep us posted!
You’re SO lucky your mom gave in like that. I begged, I pleaded, I cried, I pulled the guilt trip, I used my birthday and my college graduation, and my mom still said no. I threatened to get one anyway and she said it would be disrespectful. Sigh.
Eek! This is taking to long and I keep checking my email obsessively. I thought I had everything for a third bun and I wouldnt need to spend much, nope I spent $100. 3 boxes of cubes, water crock, water bottle for backup, jumbo litter box, dog leash clips and more zipties. Now I just need a new rug, I could use the old raggy one but its not so nice, its from litter training days. I havent even gotten the okay yet and im setting everything up! I built Hammer and Lucy’s new setup and started on Mae’s. I had to get rid of more of my stuff to make them good sized cages. I probably should wait to do all this stuff till I get a yes but Im too excited and can’t stop thinking about it!
Sibley- I am a good arguer, my mom is not. I use that lol. There were a few minutes of pleading but in the end she accepted that this was really really important and gave up. Every single one of the animals we have now are the result of my being annoyingly persistent (but this was more important to me then most). One cat, Toluz, she said no to for hours. I found him at my friends 16th birthday party and he was thin, sad and pathetic. I texted my mom for hours insisting he was coming home with me, and when she came to pick me up it was still a no. But I got in the car with him anyway and now three years later he is lounging in the hallway
BunnyLiz- I totally get why this is so important to you. If you get the “zing” from a certain pet you have to follow your heart and look into it and if it was meant to be- it will be.
I was not looking for a 3rd bunny when I saw Griffin’s litter. But I had a feeling about those bunnies- so I followed up on it-and now I have my sweet adorable, nutty Griffin.
OMG…I just read these 2 pages and scrolling down hoping to see that you were accepted to adopt her. WOW IM GOING TO EXPLODE IN ANXIETY FROM NOT KNOWING!!! **BOOM** No, but really I got all tense in my legs, crossing them too hard because I was so anxious lol!! Oh wow I hope you can get her that is just so amazing and what an honor to your Rose that you can love her sister and give her a forever home. This is so heart wrenching I’m all teary! Can I call them and tell them you need to adopt her right this instant?!!?! Hehe! I know that zing you get as well from when you see something you just must have. I felt that way when I saw Bun. I had absolutely nothing for a rabbit but I KNEW she was the one for me. I am so happy for you!!! EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!
Bunnyliz you sound just like me. My parents constantly told me no. It didn’t stop me from bringing home… 2 cats, 1 dog, 3 chinchillas, guinea pigs, rabbits, 50 gallon fish tank….80 gallon fish tank.. my poor poor parents. Lol!!!!! I love animals!!
I inherited my pet addiction from my mom. She’s brought home kittens from boxes left outside, more kittens from a paper route my sister had, a mouse from a car wash she went to, gerbils from my grade 6 class when school let out for summer…
And then I started. A kitten from a house where she wasnt being fed at all. Ended up being 3 pounds fully grown, poor little thing. Another kitten from across the street from where I lived. Then I found my now-Hubby. And then my Monkey bunny. And soon another bunny, after Monkey is fixed. Then, when I tell him we’re getting a house, more bunnies! hehe
Hope you get Mae! Monkey is crossing her ears for you
*tap-tap-tapping fingers impatiently…* I would have thought it’d be quicker since you’ve already been approved before. Ring them, remind them. Do you know, there is one little thing I’m apprehensive about in all this. LUCY! lol. Hope she approves!
Its great to know that you guys are excited with me and understand. My mom keeps glaring at me wierd lol, she doesnt get it. Your lucky, Monkey, that your mom encouraged you with bringing home everything. Lintini, we are very similar with bring them home. I started when I was four, my mom left and I my aunt was babysitting me at my house. When she got home I had a litter of kittens in the house and picked out my favorite, who is still here. She said no to my 3 dogs, 2 cats, 3 buns, 4 rats, 2 turtles (poor turtle, it only had 3 legs so I felt bad for it). She did agree to 1 cat and 3 hamsters all on her own though.
Jersey- LUCY! I know! She is a problem. I expected she will not approve, but when I bun sat for a friend they both did good. Lucy was just really curious but not agressive. I didnt think about this till today, but im more worried about Hammer… Mae looks like Rose. Do you think he will think its Rose? She passed 7 months ago, I would think he remembers her but hopefully he gets that its not her from her smell. It makes me nervous, because when she passed he did grieve and caused himself complications with not eating. But they dont really know what his problem was, it could have been grieving, or pain from his teeth check, or a mix. But my biggest concern is keeping Hammer and Lucy bonded! I predict Lucy will get humpy which isnt okay with Hammer. I just need to watch them closely and maybe a few stressful car rides will keep things together. Now im , but im still about Mae.
Monkey Bun, I think we need to get the sticks out on these people and poke them a bit!
*waits*
I have the sticks ready! Freshly sharpened

I have the sticks ready! Freshly sharpened
I know….lets go poke them already….JEEZ!! Hope they contact you soon!!! Keeping my fingers and the bunny’s ears crossed for you!!
*pokes the approval people*
*waits*
*pokes again*
OMG I can’t wait to hear what happens!!!
*takes a poking stick from monkeybun*
*poke poke poke*
C’mon already! I felt for sure they’d be an update this morning when I checked in! Liz, do you want us all to start emailing? j/k!!!
I didnt think about this till today, but im more worried about Hammer… Mae looks like Rose. Do you think he will think its Rose?
That had crossed my mind too….I don’t think so, I like to think they can differentiate. Besides, his life is different now. He’s been a single bun, had and lost a short term companion and then grieved, now bonded with another companion. I’m thinking you’ll get normal reaction from him at having another animal about – whatever “normal” might be!
Im pretty Hammer wont mind much, he is a laid back dude. I thought it would move quickly too, since ive already been aproved once. But still no word.
Monkeybun, pass me a poking stick. And make it a sharp one lol.
hehe! You know the saying “a watched pot never boils”? Maybe if you make yourself unavailable for the day, that’s when people will try get in touch with you.

Good idea, Jersey! My mom always told me, “Good things come to those who wait.” Good advice, but I am very impatient myself!! I hope they contact you soon!
getting impatient…wanna know right now!!!
Stopped in to update you guys!
The update is… there is no update. Im probably calling tonight if I dont hear anything at all by then. I submitted it mid Saturday, and got an automatic email saying I need to do a phone interview and then we are good to move forward in dating or whatever as long as you get approved. I havent heard anything since the auto email. So all I need is to chat for a bit and then Mae would be ready to come home with me, so its not a huge time consumming process.
It probably would be good to follow up. These are all volunteer groups and most of the time they do this in their spare time so a follow up is a good thing to do just in case it got lost somewhere in the shuffle.
APPROVED!! APPROVED WOOT WOOT!
I tried to call her last night but didnt get an answer. She called me today, she is recovering from surgery so thats why it toke her awhile. She said she read my application and thought I was an awesome home, and she didnt even need to question me because I knew a lot and had been approved already last year. She is the chapter manager and Mae’s foster, so we chated for awhile about Mae’s situation. And boy does she have a sad sad story. Poor Mae. She is still very traumatized, and has certain triggers that set her back in her mind to her previous “home.” So she told me everything she could think of that I would need to know that could set her off, so I can avoid that situation and panic as much as possible. But to give you an idea of what I mean by panic, she said she will ram herself into walls if she gets scraed because its like a blind panic and she just runs frantically. But she said she is very sweet and forgiving too. She said she loves to be petted as long as she knows you and you know how to pet her. She was not starved like Rose, but had a more abusive situation appartently. And I found out that Rose was a breeder and had litters. Their “home” was breeding for meat. She is a chunker and a bit overweight, over 8 lbs. No current health issues, but had a upper res. infection like Rose did. I asked if Saturday would be to early, and she is going to call me back soon to let me know. She isnt living with her right now, because of her surgery she cant pick her up yet so Mae is in a temporary foster home now.
YAY! *cheers* Poor little Mae, bet she’ll love having a real home now
Yay! I’m so happy for you and for Mae. It’s good that you are getting all of Mae’s background and now know more about Rose’s background too. It sounds like Mae has gotten alot of TLC and needs alot more.
Congratulations :~)
Thanks guys!!!
Yay! Congratulations!!!
Congrats!! She will be so happy. Maybe you should pick up some rescue remedy before you bring her home, just in case the change is too much for her?
Sibley- I have some! But I didnt think about it so thanks, Ill bring it along for the car and maybe for the first day. I sounds like Rescue Remedy will be used a lot for her.
CONGRATULATIONS! I’m so happy for you…
Yay!!!!! I am so happy for you!
Aaaaaa I’m so excited!!!! I’m so happy they gave you a response and you’re getting Mae ^_^ I’ve been so anxious following your thread she’s gonna be very loved in her new home
OMG that is so awesome!!! Congrats!!!!! OMG she is going to be so happy in her new home
Phew – at last good news. So she’s just had her spay?? I thought perhaps they’d do that earlier on especially if in foster homes? It’s great your getting her history and more of Rose’s – does it give a bit more cloosure on Rose’s illness and passing? I’m betting she’ll be a thumper like Rose when you first brought her home. Ok, start the impatience again – c’mon Saturday!!
Oh, this is awesome!
May really needs a patient and loving home – and you are the one to give it to her. It will probably be a tough journey but, very worth it!!!
Oh, yay!!! I’m so glad to hear that Mae is going to have a great new home! She definitely deserves it after what she has been through.
Woot! Congrats! You will totally have to take pictures of her if the camera doesn’t scare her. Otherwise, we will need an in depth description!
Of course, if taking still pictures of her scares her, with the noise and all, you could just take a video
Thanks guys, im so excited! Jersey, Im not sure why I just noticed her or why she just came up for adoption. It may have been hinted that she mentally wasnt ready until recently, but I forgot to ask because I was all misty while we were chatting about her past and her current situation and how I will handle things, but its on my list of things to ask when I pick her up. And its not for sure on Saturday yet, she was suppose to get back to me and hasnt, but im being as patient as possible because her foster is the chapter manager and has a lot to handle, plus she just had surgery and is limited in what she can do right now. Monkeybun, I hadnt thought about videos instead of pictures, thats an awesome idea if she is camera shy. Sadly BB members wouldnt be able to see her then because ive tried and never had any luck with videos.
Congratulations Liz! *claps* If anyone deserved to give Mae a chance at a happy life it’s you!
Keeping you in my prayers that all works out well and that she adjusts quickly to her new home with you.
Oh I am SOOOO Happy for you!!!! You will give Mae the loving, forever home she needs and deserves!! I hope you can get her soon!!
*SCREAM!!!* I pick her up tomorrow at 6:30 pm!!!! Ekk! So I should have pictures and a tread up by 10pm tomorrow. Its over a two hour drive it will take awhile to get you all some pics. I had more questions and found out that Mae was always up for adoption and I didnt notice her till they changed her picture, yes, im horrible. And her foster wanted to know if she could send a large cardboard box with us that Mae is particularly fond of, and anything that makes her more comfy in her new home is fine by me so now I have to find somewhere to put this big box lol.
IM SO EXCITED!!!!!
I am too! I’m sure you won’t get any sleep tomorrow night since you will be up all night making sure Mae is all happy and comfy in her new home :~) It’s so nice that her foster mom wants her to be comfortable too.
I’m so excited for you!! can’t wait to see how she’s doing in her new home!
*paces back and forth*
Arg tomorrow is taking forever to get here!
I gotta say, this is a stand out event this year on BB.com for me.
Aww Jersey thats sweet. But it means a lot to me that your excited for me and support my getting a third.
But I cant sleep!!! So im just surfing BB because time always flies here hehe
maybe you need some of that rescue remedy? No good you being without sleep and all wound up tomorrow. She’ll be nervvy enough for the both of you.
Arghhhh! I sound like someone’s Mother!!
Yes I need to sleep but I cant calm down lol. Rescue remedy… lol it might be useful here. I really do need sleep, I need to be ready for tomorrow. It will be very exciting but could go very wrong too. Mae could freak out terribly and Ill have to figure out what exactly is bothering her. Small things panic her sometimes so I have to be on my toes. I just really really am praying she doesnt start screaming, Ive never heard a bun scream before and it would just break my heart to hear that on the first day.
BunnyLiz I’m so anxious for you! I can’t imagine how anxious and nervous you are! But everything is gonna be fine you’re a great bunny mum and when you’re with her you’ll know what to do to comfort her
I certainly hope so! Im just terrified Ill slip up and forget who im handling and touch her wrong. She is pretty sensitive, so if I make a mistake she wont soon forget. And then she will be even more terrified! Breath Liz! Lol it will all work out in time. No matter what happens, time will help heal whatever I screw up lol.
I’m really looking forward to pics of you and her!
Oh Liz, you won’t screw up with her! I am sure she will just love you and I hope you bond with her quickly. Good luck getting her today!! I am getting to get on later tonight and see how things went!
Anxiousss ^_^ Mae must be in her new home alreadyyy!
