Well, tomorrow I’m getting my tonsils out. I wasn’t nervous until today, when all my classmates were talking about how it is a much harder surgery for adults and how painful the post-surgery period is. Has anybody here had their tonsils taken out as an adult? Please tell me it’s not as bad as they were making it out to be… Please?

oh silly classmates!! don’t freak out- i’m sure it won’t be as bad as you think. i had surgery for some cervical problems (eeeeek) and it wasn’t as bad as i thought. the doctors were nice and the pain meds help a lot.

          don’t stress!

Aww, howcome you have to get your tonsils out? Do you get really bad sore throats? I know I get really bad sore throats, my mom suggested that I get my tonsils removed but the doctors only say they do in in dire need. My tonsils also look yucky, they have craters in them, it is gross.

I had four permanent teeth removed, I don’t know if that is the same…

            I wish you luck.

The only thing I remember about getting my tonsils out was I screamed and cried for ice cream.   And the patient next to me I was going to school with.  HE gave me a little cowboy that goes on those little plastic horses.

I wouldn’t worry too much they got good pain meds out there.

I never had my tonsils out, but did have my wisdom teeth. They gave me lots of pain meds and my mom gave me jello and ice cream all the time! Good luck!

I had my thyroid out. I have what I like to call a smiley face on my neck now. It hurt. The worst part was being so sick to my stomach. Actually, scrap that, the worse part was the blood thinning shots that I got on my stomach surface. And staying in the hospital. I wanted to go home an hour after I woke up from my surgery. Though I didn’t take my pain meds until they told me I had to do so. It didn’t really hurt horribly, and life was sooo much better when I stopped feeling like I was going to throw up. Sometimes my neck still hurts, and I hate having the scar touched at all. Though they take the tonsils out through the mouth right?

A lady next to me had pretty much the same surgery as me, except it was only half of her thyroid that was removed. She sounded horrible and she had a lot more pain meds than i did! So pain is kind of a personal thing. You will get through this no matter how you deal with pain! You will have knowledgeable doctors and nurses that will take care of you until you are feeling better. Plus you have an advantage of us BB well wishers!

They didn’t so much hurt hurt. It was more like a sore muscle that you can’t stretch. Of course, I might have been lucky and U was a kid. All I know is ice cream works great. My wisdom teeth didn’t hurt after extraction (didn’t need any pain pills) but two days later I had a 102 degree fever and nasty infection that burst overnight so I felt better the next day.

As for more sore throats – nope. My main issue is that when I get a cough, nothing will alleviate it – ergo constant coughing and sore throat but never just a sore throat.

Well, today is the day. My surgery was pushed two hours, so a little bit more time to work myself up! lol. Just kidding really. I’m feeling a bit better today because I read up on tonsillectomies in my medical-surgical textbook. Doesn’t seem too bad, overall. Plus, I stocked up on pudding, applesauce and ice cream last night! Yay!

BTW, Moonlight Wolf, I need to get them out because I also have craters, and stuff gets stuck in them and then chokes me. I know… ew.
