Share your picture-taking tips here!

After seeing some of the fabulous shots of all your bunnies and other pets here, (especially those oh-so-cute baby bunny pix from Amanda) I wonder if you would all care to share some of your best photo shooting tips for those of us who seem to be all thumbs with a camera? ^_^ How DO you get that perfect picture??

And especially with fall approaching (or in full swing in my case) would you share some pictures of what it looks like outside where you are? Are those leaves turning yet?

Take lots of photos, really lots!
When I did my last Kay & Winston photo shoot. I took about 100 photos and got about 10 that I am really happy with. Let’s hear it for digital cameras where we can just delete all the out of focus or blurry shots.
If you can get in a situation where you have enough light – and therefore don’t have to use the on camera flash – you can take pictures much faster. This gives you the opportunity to get better action shots!

Leaves are not turning yet here. But, Starbucks is already offering Pumpkin Spice lattes!

Just like Sage Cat said before me, I take a ton of pictures!
Then I go through the camera and delete the ones that didn’t turn out. I usually keep all of my favorites.

& to catch those baby binkies I just kept the button down and took like 20 pictures just to get one or two binky shots.

I think I’ll have to get myself a new camera then. Mine just won’t click fast enough. Plus both new batteries I bought for it just a short while ago are already dead.

Never tried a pumpkin spice latte… hmm.

I have always taken crap pictures, but occasionally I’ll get 1 or 3 decent ones. The best pics are the ones my hubby takes, he’s the photographer :p

 

Still sort of summer here, its been a bit damp, but everything is still green

i would agree with sage cat that enough light is important, as bunnies won’t stay still.
here is one exception, flopping. i got one trick to take photo of a flopping bunny that i flop too. i laid myself on the floor, slowly approching to Fluffy. face to face, floor as tripod, things became much easier. haha!

A quick recap – since my original post on that thread is fairly long – Leroy has learned that the sound of his pellets rattling in the scoop means hes going to get yummy noms, so he always gets really excited and comes running to me when he hears the pellets (or when he hears me rustling about with his pellet container, or when I call his name ) So to get great pix of binkies and zooms, I get some pellets (I hand feed him at dinner time anyway) and call him, and of course, he comes racing towards me – I give him a couple pellets, run to the other other side of the room and repeat. It’s a little tricky to manage the pellets, the bun, and the camera at the same time, so I’d like to recruit my bf to help me, and have him stand off to the side with the camera as I call Leroy – we haven’t had time to try that yet though.

Lancy, I agree, with a flopped out bun, the key is to get down on the ground and approach slooowly.

Lancy- Your right. I did forget to mention that I also lay on the floor and I almost have the camera on the floor and I take pictures that way too sometimes. They turn out great just like that picture you have of that beautiful bunny up there. he is so pretty.

Oh yes, Getting down on the same level as your subject – kid, pet, plants, what ever – makes a big difference!! As that awesome portrait of Fluffy demonstrates!!

My buns are too lazy to move for a picture. They just sit there and let me take what I want. On the flip side of that, they dont move or binky anymore so I can never catch any of those!

Maybe a zoom and a couple binkies from Dexter, but rarely. But alas, *sigh* no more binkies or zooms from Davey and Delilah. If they get excited it only last for one zip around the pen, then they’re done

Thinking about it, mine only get real athletic outside on the deck. especiallly in windy weather, snow or if dusk is setting in… and ironicallly all three are reasons to bring them in!!!!

But to get back to the topic, I have best luck with outdoor pictures as I need reallly really bright light on my dark buns. Plus, I don’t always have nice background indoors, and that makes half the picture. The other thing is, I try to get the whole bunny in the photo.

I agree with Petzy… best to get the whole bunny in the pic. Most of the time, the picture just looks wrong if the bunny is cut off at the butt or the feet or elsewhere. I have no other tips. I hardly ever take pictures, which is something I keep telling myself I need to change. Alas, it has not happened yet. I go through short periods of time when I take lots of pics, but they only happen once every few years, sadly.

The natural light really makes it all look better than the flash. If the bunny is lit on one side but the background is dark, it’s more dramatic, not really dark.

One tip that helps a lot. Don’t let them be backlit. Have the window or light source behind you, not your subject. That way the light is on them not behind them and they don’t become a shadow in front of blinding whiteness.

TAKE tons of pictures! If I take fifty or so, I get a few really good ones! (At least in my opinon good). Especially with animals-they move so if you try to time pictures you end up frustrated.

I’m quite literally almost done my 2nd photobucket account-and they both are almost completely animal pics So I mean-LOTS of pictures to get some good ones.

Also get a good camera-mine is old-need a new one
