I built Maddy a new NIC cage, and I’m so proud, because I did it for under $20!

I found a box of nearly 100 NIC grids at the thrift store. I got the whole box for $5, including the plastic connectors. I decided for a floor to put down heavy ceramic tile (with a blanket underneath to catch any accidents that go between the small cracks). I got a box of 16 for $11, brand new, at the Habitat for Humanity Re-Store (a large wherehouse of use building supplies. Basically a home-improvement thrift store). Plus cable ties for $3, and voila! I already had the dow rod and blankets. I still have at least 60 grids left. One day I plan to re-build her cage, and double the size. But for now, it’s nice and roomy, and she seems to love it!

I’m going to change the flooring on the shelf tomorrow, the blanket and ceramic tile are only temporary for tonight. I am going to carpet the shelf tomorrow.

        Pictures!

What a lucky bunny! I want to turn into a bunny and come live with you! I bet that tile will be nice and cool in the summer. Though in the winter a rug might be nice. Also, she’s a (mini) rex right? Watch out as she now has all that room she might get a little sore in the hocks. Though you probably already knew that.

Oh, and that pic of a turtle above her cage is adorable. So is Maddie of course! I love her bowl too. Super cute!

Aw, what a pretty bunny Maddy is! And you’re a great inspiration to me: I need to get some more NIC to make a bigger cage for when my buns are completely bonded, and it never occurred to me to check thrift stores. Thanks for the idea! BTW that cage looks great!

Wow, what a great cage! You are so lucky to come upon a great deal like that! The only ones I can find in my area are $20.00 for a pack of 13! That gets pretty pricey.

Maddy is adorable! She reminds me of a lighter version of my Olivia.

Maddy is really cute! I may have to “steal” some of your cage creativity.. I have leftover ceramic tiles from the last lizard enclosure I did ..and I got a box full of grids off freecycle.org …plus the little connectors. Great new cage!!

what a great find!  And Maddy looks so soft and velvety- and that face- how could you ever get mad or stay mad at her even if she does something naughty?  It would be impossible!

Maddy is gorgeous.  What a cage.  Wow.  Nice tile.  I too found NIC cubes at a thrift store.  4.00 I think it was.  Had some connectors and 24 panels I think .

You never know what  you gona find at a thrift store.
