I just tested the upload feature with Google Chrome 2.0 and it worked okay for me, so I wonder what i s going on. IF you upload a photo that is too large, it will give you an error message, so that isn't it.
When you click on the attchments section - Do you see this image between Create Thumbnail and Display Link?
