Well, since we’re all going ga-ga over the sock bunnies, I thought I’d look up Etsy and found this:

        http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php

        After all…her bunny’s name IS “Frankie”…lolz!

lolz…And I just realized we have two Rachels on the board now…I was thinking of xdigxmexnowx…

I just bought a book on how to do animgurumi. I’ve decided I need to learn to knit and crochet, it will keep my hands busy.
Does anyone here knit or crochet? If so, how long did it take you to learn?

Hey Mimz Mum – I crochet. My knitting is very lacking but, I’m working on it. I think which ever one you learn first you are better at,cause they are opposites.
It took me no time at all to learn. Maybe about 2 months to get pretty good at it.
I mostly checked books out from the library – I found the ones for teens have great for learning, lots of illustrations.
There are some good websites like: http://www.lionbrand.com/ that has a Learning Center.

I have a few “recipes” for animgurumi bunnies I want to make!

                        ROFL! Too true!

Sage, thanks for the link to the yarn site. Yeah, I’d really like to do both, but with my poor eyesight I might have to just settle for one fashion. I’ve been so jealous of all my husband’s relatives who can knit, his stepmom makes the greatest blankets and hats and scarves. She has great talent. Even my (birth)mom can crochet and it drives me nuts!

I LOVE Etsy!!! I could spend all day just browsing the site.

Lori Anne- Since I’m very anti-fur I e-mailed Etsy my thoughts on them using fur.

Mimzmum- I bought a “Teach Yourself to Crochet” kit because it said it was so easy but I’m finding it quite difficult to learn all the loops and stuff. I love the idea of crochet because yarn is so ridiculously cheap compared to my other crafts and it’s so fast when you get good at it (I do cross-stitch so something quick would be a nice change of pace.)

Little Puffy Tail – I got that same “Teach Yourself to Crochet” kit – NOT SO MUCH. Those kits do not have good instructions!

Library books & good web sites, or a very patient friend, are the way to go.

Out of all of our group of friends, I am the only female to not knit lol. I’ve been holding out, cuz I’ve seen the amount of room it takes up in one of my friends houses lol.

Depends. If you’re making them to sell, perhaps, but I know if I got a kit to make things and then just added to the already overflowing house clutter, my hubby would have reason to have me institutionalized…lolz.
I think they’re probably pretty easy to do. From what I can tell, it seems you kind of shorten the sock a bit to an inch or two above the heel for the face and body, clip the toe area to make the ears, sew those shut, stuff the other end of the sock, sew it shut. then embroider eyes and a nose. However it’s probably a bit more complex than that. But what the heck, have some of those left handed socks that their mate didn’t make it out of the dryer? Go for it!
For me, it was worth it to purchase them from the originator of the style and have her lovely creation brightening my day. (Plus I have serious copyright issues, having been a musician for most of my life.) I wouldn’t for the life of me take her design and try to sell them myself. I’d actually love to send her some socks from the U.S. and have her make customs, but that WOULD be silly! ^_^

I think sending socks is a great idea.

Send Meanie’s, Monkeybun. Let him wear sandles. It’s summer.

tabalab, show us what you make.

btw, I looked on line a few weeks ago and the stuffing they use is super soft, and only made in the UK.

So here is my sock bun! He is all hand sewed and I got really lazy and just drew on a mouth. It isn’t the best but hey I never sew anyway.

This is a little late but-

I knit but I haven’t learned how to purl (from what I understand it’s like backwards knitting.) I haven’t learned how to crotchet but I’ve been trying to learn. I have taken up spinning yarn from wool and now shedded bunny fur. I have been collecting Sir Thumps to spin and some of Halo’s. I’ll let you know how it turns out.

I have a neighbor (we are not on speaking terms) who used to raise angoras for knitting materials. She apparently made mittens and hats from their fur.
Spinning your own yarn, now THAT is a wild idea! 0_o I don’t think I could manage it.
