Some years ago, I signed up for free email card services with the group “Care 2” – they are pretty vocal in petitioning for policy change in everything from saving the whales to who should be president. For the most part, a lot of their unsolicited “alerts” to petitions and influencing politics do not bother me….however….

This morning I open my email program to this. I do not vouch for it’s validity, but merely place it here to ask if anyone from this part of the country can tell me how real it might be. (I get packets from PETA all the time because I bought a necklace from them a few months ago, and their ensuing propaganda is heart wrenching, but as far as I know, unverifyable.) If it is, I think it’s a horrendous practice and it should be stopped. I don’t know if signing a petition is going to make a difference, but if you vote in Michigan or have the moxie to call your local Congressman and try to bend his/her ear, I would think this would be worth it.

        Hi,

Right now in Michigan, shelter cats and dogs can be bought for experimental research. The animals are then euthanized.

Support Michigan House Bill 4663 to eliminate pound seizure in Michigan animal shelters >>

Companion animals depend on humans for their safety and well-being. Tragically, this dependency is betrayed when shelters allow these pets to be taken by Class B Dealers for resale to research.

When Class B dealers (animal brokers) and research facilities can obtain cats and dogs from animal shelters, it diminishes the shelters’ credibility and purpose, and betrays public trust.

We have a chance to change this. Please sign today to support Michigan House Bill 4663 >>

Thank you for helping animals today.

I don’t think these on-line petitions are really effective. I used to get these from Care2 as well then just unsubscribed.

This is probably true and it’s up to the people in Michigan to take action in my opinion. I think you make a bigger impact in your own community than you can anywhere else. You know the whole thing globally act locally think – the grassroots organization just makes more sense, in my opinion and can be the most effective.
