So I’ve became friends with the woman from the shelter I got Gracie from on facebook and she told me about a yahoo group she made and I joined it and looked up when Jen first got Gracie to see if there was any more info on her background and she posted this:

“So we just got in little Gracie to the rescue, the rabbit I posted about earlier.  This poor little thing.  Her rear was so caked in feces, I can’t even believe it.  She has urine burns on her rear end, and her nails were soooo long.  Apparently she has been living in a 2′ x 2′ hutch for her entire life, approximately 4-5 years.  Her owners “didn’t like her” because she would bite them and spray pee.  Well duh, first of all, she’s not spayed.  Second, Mary, the woman who got her from them, said that the kids would go down and actually HIT her to get her to run around!!!  The kids didn’t realize that would make her fight back!  Her one adult owner said, “Oh yeah, she bit me once, but I smacked her and she never did it again.”  What kind of person would hit a rabbit???
But through it all, she is soooooo sweet.  She hasn’t acted agressive at all, and she’s uber outgoing, exploring her new pen (probably 3 times the size of the one she’s been in her whole life), and wow, she’s warm!  No more snow and cold to deal with ever again!!  She let me trim her rear and nails and has really been enjoying her cuddle time.  I posted some pictures of her up, under the folder Gracie.  I did include pictures of her rear, and those are kind of graphic.

Everyone keep her in your thoughts that she gets a really good home and is spoiled for the rest of her life.
        Jen”

That makes me so mad at what those people did to her!  How could you ever hit such a beautiful creature??!!    I looked up the pictures she had posted and the one was of her rear end and it was really bad, just poop everywhere on her behind!

I am so glad we rescued her and give her love and attention.  I hope she lives a long healthy life now.

I’m so glad Gracie is now with you where she will be spoiled rotten as she should be. Some people should never ever have pets – makes me sad when I hear about these things.

I saw this or something close to it when I checked out the petfinder (or whichever network it was, i forgot) add you posted for Gracie. It makes me mad too but it also makes me feel great knowing she is in your hands now. She finally has the wonderful life she deserves.

It is sad Gracie went through that. She’s obviously strong and good natured though to be non-aggressive after being taken from that environment. Amazing Grace! Though it must have been distressing, it is good to get her history so you can spoil her accordingly. Also, to be aware of any triggers that cause fear in her etc. It’ll make you be able to understand her and care for her better. Sooo glad she had Jen and now you, your husband and Archie!

Oh poor bloody thing How lonely and scared she must have been. I bet she’s super happy-held on to that life waiting for her new loving home.

WHY do people get pets if they don’t care about them???? I just do not get it…

OH my gosh 4-5 years in 2×2  and getting hit so they can watch her run.  What kind of parents were they.  Thats why I feel kids should not have pets   May Gracie have the best life ever.  I am sure she will have it now.  Poor thing.  The things creatures go through.

OH I saw an article in our paper here about the new petting zoo at the well zoo…   The picture was of a child pulling the tail of  the oh  dang  I think an armadillo   at the petting zoo… yes was an armadillo…  What the *#@ kind of picture is that to put in the paper.

Some kid pulling an animals tail  now what is that supposed to teach children.  OOOOF.   And the parents it seems like didn’t do a darn thing about it.

Oh my gosh!  Why would people post that in the paper?  Yes I agree about the kids and pets; unless you really teach them right from wrong.  But when you get a kid a pet, really it’s the parents responsiblity to take care of it.  I think those people just had Gracie to breed her.  They were trying to breed her with an Angora rabbit that actually turned out to be female.  I think she’s still scared of people because she gets a bit jumpy when you pet her…probably because of her previous owners.  But we still have to get her to trust us.  We’re probably not doing to well with her trust us by bonding her and I took her to the vet the other day…probably just freaked her out more!

It seems pretty good.  I thought her eyes looked a little clear but it was just the way the light was hitting it.  I’m sure our vet would have said something if there was something wrong with her.  I like my vet, she’s probably the only one around here who knows rabbits & I trust but I don’t care for how they take the rabbits in the back where you can’t see what they’re doing.  I can understand why they do that though because with Archie he was freaking out and tried to jump off of the table.  But she said Gracie was really healthy, has some scare tissue on her ears (probably where she was hit at) and she found a stitch from her spay that hadn’t dissolved and took it out.  She even gave her a complimentary nail trimming!  I’m still waiting on the call of the results of her poo.

When I came home today I went to her cage and she ran by the door and grunted.  I let her out and she followed me for a bit.  She even binkied for the first time!  I was so happy

But Gracie must think she’s gone to bunny-heaven!  It’s amazing how they can bounce back from such trauma.
